Cold air intake?

As far as I know, Mazdaspeed hasn't released any intakes for the 3, much less the 'Speed 3. I could be wrong.

But even if they did, why would you pay three times as much for something that's no better than aftermarket?

Yes, there is the rebadged AEM for like, $300.00-- for the 3, not the MS3.
People are going crazy for them and I have no idea why anyone would pay that much for an intake.

Like ZoomVT said... cause it has a cool little Mazdaspeed logo on it. (jerkit)

i have a question, most of the CAI's i was looking at were for the 2.3L..i have a 2.0L, would they fit in my car? (its probably no, but i just wanted to make sure..im just begining to learn about cars..sorry for the stupidity)

i believe they do fit... go ahead and do a forum specific search for 2.0l and intake and see what pops up as i know it has been discussed before.

the mazdaspeed brand is an aem rebadged but does include the new dryflow filter...also the dealer gives me no problem with the speed intake.....i know all about warranty stuff but the easier it is to get them to service my car the better.....

Yes, they will fit. The engine layout and throttle body are the same for both engines.

since we already have this thread....
i am having a small issue with my CAI. Even though i dont drive through huge puddles of water; because the filter seats behind the wheel well and the well has holes on it through where water can go trhough.
In theory not enough water would through to create issues but when the car breathes hard, it sucks in water from the wheel well and throws a CEL. It sucks, because i dont drive very fast during rain but every now and then i need to pass some one or accelerate and i already know that if i downshift then i will be sucking water down the intake and getting a CEL.
The CEL then clears after the filter dries itself off.
Any suggestions on how to stop this... taping the holes on the well? what do you recommend i use? Would that have an effect on the temp of the air i get in?
What can i expect as far as side effects? this is maybe the 4th time i had this happen since i installed the CAI. The first 3 happen the first 3 days i had it; it took me a little while to learn not to get very high RPMs duirng the rain. And since then it just happened again last night. Something i should do to avoid long term damage to the engine? Hydrolock?
Any help much appreciated.

As a side note; it rained and snowed a bit last night and people drove like if they were from texas and had never seen snow before. very annoying.

Hi,

If you just have a bare filter you can look into getting whats called a pre-filter. Injen makes one - do a google search and look for "cai pre-filter"

I have an injen one bought it for about $25 bucks, its a micro-mesh shield that prohibits water - still won't do anything if its submerged, but its very good for splashes.

ok, now that i know the CAi would fit my car, i have another question. do i need a exhaust system? i was think of just changing my muffler tip, but i dont if that would do anything.

Intakes are best coupled with Exhaust, your going to see more results with a bigger diameter piping for the exhaust, and if you're not worried about emissions, ditch the cat and resonator. Changing the tip will only add to cosmetics.

up until a certain size since you aren't going turbo. anything over 2.5" would probably not help you out.

Your MAF sensor's hot and cold wires are getting wet, which causes the CEL. It would go away after awhile, sometimes it won't let you rev over 3 or 4k. Does get annoying. All i do is pull out the CAI and wipe it down with a towel, leave the filter out for a few mins, and either clean the MAF with CRC MAF cleaner or if I know it's wet, i just spray the hot and cold wires very gently with compressed air. The 2 wires are inside the MAF actually.

I doubt there'd be long term engine damage. The engine's very hot even in the rain, that tiny droplets that pass the filter evaporate by the time they reach the TB. It's just that once a tiny drop reaches the hot wire, you'll get a CEL right away. The best you could do is drive more defensively in the rain (yea right), buy a splash shield and aim it towards the wheel well vents or a get a pre-filter, and/or cover the wheel well vents with something like an egg crate foam.

Not really, but it complements it nicely. I believe a 3 owner needs just 3 mods to make the 3 much more fun to drive:
1. CAI
2. Short shifter
3. Rear sway bar

The rest just complements those 3 mods :)

if you are thinking of adding a cat-back (they're in the $400+ range), they do give more a little more peak hp, but gives you a VERY good amount of torque especially in the midrange.

thebeansoldier you are the man. thanks for the explanation. I knew i wasnt going thourgh puddles so i couldnt imagine i was sucking that much water in. But you hit it right on the spot, it gets annoying and sometimes i doesnt let me go over 4k or it feels like it will stall. I do try to drive "better" in the rain so i dont get the damn CEL but sometimes you got to do what you got to do.
I wouldnt worry about cleaning it though, i usually just let the car dry itself off overnight or whatever and it dissapears.
Thanks!

Unless the engine bay is different somehow the Simota will fit. I haven't sold any to the '07 guys yet...but I haven't seen anything different.
Anyone else wanna confirm that before I pimp too hard!?

I am planning on buying an CAI for my 07' Mazda3. But I am not sure if i should get an AEM, or an OEM Mazda CAI for about $300 CDN.

**How much are the AEM going for?

I read before that the OEM CAI is just a AEM CAI, but with a different logo?? I do not have much money to spend, but I also don't want to void warranty.

Anyone here from Canada, Ontario with an CAI?

Do you guys keep the CAI, CAI all year, or do you switch to the short intake over the rainy season (ie, Winter, Spring)?

save some $$ and get the AEM. The mazdaspeed has a (california air resourses board or something) CARB #, which does nothing for anyone outside of California. MS is the AEM with a splash shield. The Mazdaspeed R&D knew that the filter gets wet even during light rain (my 1st hand experience as well) because the filter is very close to the wheel well ducting vents-- so they added a splash shield.

as far as I know, the intake/engine isn't covered by mazda if your MAF or MAF wires F up or if you hydrolock. I think the warranty on the intake is when the mounting bracket breaks off due to engine movement.

I've had no problems with the F2 (filter sits next to the horn), but they're relatively hard to get and those that have em like em a lot. If you're VERY concerned about the rain, purchase an SRI. The throttle response should be better than the CAI since there's a shorter distance for the air to travel, and no hydrolock to worry about.

Do you know who makes good SRI? Also good on $$$
