Cold air intake?

Lest anyone get the wrong idea, Simota is not an 'e-bay' intake.
They make nothing but intakes and filters and all are extensively tested.
They are just not well-known in the U.S. because I am one of only a small handful of North American distributors.

Check out their site for more info: www.simota.com

Are you going to have a group buy anytime soon? After much waffling, I am looking for a Simota CF625-1 for my 3. I won't be getting it for another 73 days, but it's never too early...

Having never laid my hands on one, the installation pics seem to make it appear that accessing the filter element might be a little difficult. Is it easier than it looks?

Yes, I will include it in my next Group Buy. As for the filter, do you mean for cleaning? You would just have to unscrew the rubber fitting and take off the
CF piece.

yeah i ran it pretty hard the harder i ran the cooler the intake temps went.. and just to show my scan tool wasn't f-ed after i did the run (through traffic and in the open 2-6k) i let it idle for a bit and the temps were about 100* above ambiant...

you just need to remove the cf heat sheild and thats not all that difficult i just cleaned mine a while ago and i think it took 10 minutes to get the filter out... and thats b/c i couldn't remember how the f*** i put it on as it was a year ago...

Proto: Yes, it would just be for routine cleaning and inspection.

Proto and Tsunami: Thanks for the info. I didn't think it would be too hard, and I would have thought just getting to the filter wouldn't have involved removing the whole thing.

After all the rain we have had here the last couple of days, I think I will have more piece of mind with an SRI vice a CAI. I know Virginia is not Bangkok, but the last couple of nights while riding home in the Big Mango the floodwaters have almost gotten to the footpegs of the bike. Those busses put out one helluva bow-wave!

All this and 0 problems with my AEM. I even have airflow holes in my fog covers.

yea, you probably kept the 3 in the garage the whole time :)

Funny thing is I didn't even use the garage this weekend, just had the wife's Montero in there. And I drove it in tonight (I start at 11:15pm Sun nights). Only crappy thing is the fog on the inside of the windshield (I thought I used the anti-fog RainX).

hey i have a couple questions about the aem cai and this seemed like a good thread to put it in instead of starting a new one. anyways heres a small list.
1. is the aem cai 2-piece?
2. Does it have a spot for that other sensor that is bolted to the stock intake box?
3. Does it have a place to mount it besides the rubber piece that mounts it to the throttle body?
Thanks!

mtx. and what is that other sensor that is near the maf is it a intake air temperature? could I get one of those injen water shields to put over it or should I just go for the injen that looks to be a 2-piece? since I have an air bypass valve but don't want to get an aem and cut it up.

The second sensor is BARO (barometric pressure) and yes, it has a place to mount it.

MTX AEM also mounts to one the bolt holes from the factory intake resonator.

I wouldn't use an air bypass. They have a tendency to dry out, crumble and get sucked into the intake. If you're really that worried about not being able to keep yourself out of 12" deep water, you should get an SRI.

but i thought my car was a boat ;) I think I'm just gonna bit the bullet and order one from protegegarage.com in a few. Thanks for your help all!

As far as I know, Mazdaspeed hasn't released any intakes for the 3, much less the 'Speed 3. I could be wrong.

But even if they did, why would you pay three times as much for something that's no better than aftermarket?

cause it has a cool little Mazdaspeed logo on it? hopefully it is not just a sticker. lol
