cold air intake for 1999 protege dx (1.6l)

Did you ever try and increase your fuel pressure to keep it from running lean? How were planning on doing this? Did it work?

i tried enriching the air-fuel mixture , i got a very little bit less hesitation , but it was still there..

to compensate for maf thinking its too lean you would need to put in a LOT LOT of gas so the result would not be efficient ..

during that test period of running rich, i had a very poor gas mileage...
so the best is a DIY intake from the original intake box or, CAI/SRI with inner gasket.... (or sell drugs until you got the money for a turbo kit )

leaf blower= electric turbo??? if so u wud be running rich again...

i would think our engines r high RPM. i remember times when things wer so wrong, it felt like a lil bit of turbo lag until 3k. but any intake mod cancels this, i think removing that resonator. it also went away after i got my injectors cleaned.(scratch)

hi everyone,
SOMEONE PLZ HELP ME!
I have searched the ENTIRE NET for a cold air intake, or any intake for that matter that is for my 2001 protege but icouldnt find any so if anyone can plz help me and post a link to were i can purchase one i would really appreciate it. p.s. Im lookin for either AEM or K&N
Thanks again everyone.
cheers

i was also lookin for a short shifter that would fit my 1.6 too so i would appreciate it if someone helped me locate one on the net ... by the way i live in UAE thats y im havin a hard time gettin this stuff, there arent many professional tuning shops around here....

the only intake worth paying for (well...kind of) is the Injen CAI. go to google.com and type in protege 1.6 injen and you will get a lot of sites that sell them, for EX: http://www.importperformance.com/store/RD6050

as for the short shifter, you can get any for a protege 99 to 03, they are all the same. there are a couple out like TWM and B&M that I can think of right now.

just go to google .com and you can find pretty much anything.

EDIT what red99pro said \/ \/ \/ you best bet is to get the simota intake from protephile, and if you are looking for a header, he has them too.

u mus b new. if you do nt want problems, buy an itake from protephile on here. those other brands have problems with the MAF sensor. weapon r works decently after you make a gasket for the MAF sensor, like i did after 3 months of uselessness from it. you can find one on ebay. i still recommend simota from protephile. check out my thread for the custom intake i did.

the problem is not running rich, or lean, timing is pulled by the ecu.. the maf detects too much air, not enough fuel, and pulls timing.. wear as it has enough fuel and air, but the maf isnt positioned right to read the amount of air comming in...

K&N doesnt make a full one for protege. try this below.

if u search 1.6L MAF ont he forum, you will see all the trouble we have.

Cai, Cel

put Cai on mine and it acted strange and tripped the CEL but after a while it cleared up and the CEL kicked off. I think it might have something to do with the car having a "learning" ECU, but im not sure. I just had to put up with it for a little while.

Bringing this thread up from the dead!

I have found and ordered a Weapon R Secret Intake for $202 shipped. Can't wait to get it! here is the link: http://www.erzperformance.com/Mazda_99_03_Protege_1_6L_302_130_p/secret165.htm

I did TONS of research and since there are no 99 1.6 CAI's I went with this one, I cant wait to hear the pulling of the air when i rev!!!

edit: oh yeah forgot to say it comes with a free RAM AIR KIT! that means I can turn this baby into something very similar to a CAI (its a tube that connects to the top of the filter and you can put it anywhere you want, in order to receive colder air)
