cold air intake for 1999 protege dx (1.6l)

or u cud make a gasket for the MAF surface out of inner tube patching...

and how come the rx8 n others with the same MAF dont have problems?(pissed)

thats not our problem, our problem is the positioning of the maf in the tube.. if it is not JUST right, you get major problems..

oh...stupid MAF. with my weapon-r short ram+90 degree elbow+ inner tube patch gasket, the car runs fine 93% of the times. sometimes the idle bogs down.

im not sure about gains because i dont remember the feel of the stock setup. it doesnt feel horrible at all. i also believe more air just has to be coming in.

Need help guys, I have a friend selling an AEM short ram intake but he says its only for 1.8's and above. im wondering if he may be wrong and it can fit on my 1.6

anyone know?

no it won't fit. It has no place to place the MAF.

Damn. AEM is so expensive and he was selling it for 165. I can't find it cheaper anywhere else.

engine

I got mine installed. And after like 1 month I have probs with my engine but I've installed the 2" tube into the intake pipe!

What cone filter is it that you put on the end of your air box? Does it work better than just a K&N drop in filter?

Fuel Pressure

I actually haven't fixed my hesitation yet. I reset my ECU a couple times and the car ran fine for a few days, but then it came back on. I have a constant CEL now due to a "Misfire in Cylinder #3". As far as the hesitation goes, I might have a small leak around one of the seals or around my MAF. So Im going to do the soapy water thing and see if I see any bubbles. If so, then I know what the problem is and will try to make the seal for the MAF sensor. While Im doing that, I might also try to adjust my stock fuel pressure and see if that will help keep away the "running too lean" issues" the CAI is known to create.

Did you ever try and increase your fuel pressure to keep it from running lean? How were planning on doing this? Did it work?

sorry for the delay, but yes basicly you fit the 2" rubber coupler in the tube wheres the maf is and from the maf entry point you slice the inner tube to get the maf in place ( thus , reducing the tube diameter at maf location)

just like you said.. the result is a constant power curves , no hesitation..

power? ...well... i installed the OBX header wich is a 4-1 desgin wich shift the peak torque at higher rpm, so IT pulls great only at high rpm.. ... bad moves from me because our engine is more a torquy engine than a high reving like hondas...

since i got 177000 Km on my engine, i think my next move is to get a leaf blower like on you tube to get a 15 hp increase. :).
