Well, I think it was a bit more than "a dip." It was a drop of about 3" without any notice. We're not from the area, didn't know there was construction in multiple spots on the road and there weren't any construction signs/barrels/notices. If there wasn't a truck right behind us and a curb to the side of us maybe we stood a chance to stop. We weren't going over 30-35 mph, as we were slowing behind the car that was in front of us (who was making a left hand turn) before we signalled right and moved into the right lane (and then fell into the hole in the pavement).

S2K's are nice but on a rainy day, you may as well be driving a paper bag with wheels... you can actually see out the back of a paper bag better. Ever notice the GIGANTIC blind spot? I'd say, go Miata. Of course, it's not like we have a shortage of those around these parts.

I agree, lowering a car comes with risks. If I would have known that dip was there, I wouldn't have changed lanes. When I went back Saturday to take pictures, i saw a line of 3 cars waiting behind a left-turning car rather than go through the hole. Even for the narrow strip, cars would slow down for the bump. After taking the pictures I drove Joyce Ann's car (slowly) through the dip, keeping one side out, and I was surprised with how much lean there was.
The shop is somewhere in Centerville near Snellville. I have the info at work. I called and let them know not to start the engine since there was no oil.

Man sorry for your loss there, that's has to be the most annoying way of getting damage done to the car, especially underneath 
. Best of luck to you in getting things fixed and done, as I would do everything possible as well to get something worked out for there not being any temporary plates in the road or something to cover that big of a dip.

Repair costs are just under $4000. That includes a new full Vibrant exhaust, AWR oil pan, front bumper, MSP lip, side skirt, splash shields, oil, and alignment. They also have to repair the cross member that's under the transmission, and knock out some bumps in the floor pan. Plus, they're letting me keep all the leftover parts. So i'll essentially have 2 full Vibrant exhausts. One on the P5, and one for a sedan. The destroyed oil pan is going up on the wall.
All this, and nothing out-of-pocket. My insurance is waiving the $100 deductible.

I will be getting a quote from them when I get back to VA and have to set up new insurance!
they said they have to keep the bumper and lip for core charges
I may enlist you for some welding help. Since I'll have some spare parts, I may put together a custom setup.

That's awesome. I use Progressive. They do things that are... well.... Progressive.
