Cobb CBE

I'm sure most of you are aware that Cobb has halted production on its CBE for the time being, due to economic situations.... I have found a few on various sites, and was thinking of ordering one now, even tho it is not nearly the next mod i wish to make, just to ensure that i can have a full Cobb Turbo-back exhaust...

This kinda cuts into my funds for mods i think would be put to better use at this time for my speed3...

I was just wondering if i keep my stock speed exhaust and do a downpipe for now, if the stock exhaust would cut my hp gains, and maybe wait it out to buy the cbe, or if i really want this particular cbe should i go ahead and get one while i can.....

Thanx

I would think so, but if $$ is a constraint then go with the Cobb downpipe and get the corksport or HKS CBE. They are both 3" back. 80% of the power gain is going to be from the new downpipe

If I had to go with a CBE other than the Cobb that I have I would probably get the Racing Beat, it looks and sounds very similar to the Cobb.

A bit off topic, but I don't see the short throw shifter on their site anymore either - did they discontinue this item as well? :(

I had not heard that the cbe was on hold, how you do find this stuff out!

short throw shifter, shifter bushings and the cbe were discontinued.
i found the cobb post somewhere, but forgot where now.

I'd say close to 100% of the power gain will be from the 3 inch dp/rp. The stock CBE will flow well over 300 whp even though the RP will neck from 3 inches back down to 2.8 inches for the stock CBE.

I spent my money on the DP/RP and saw it as a better investment, but each to his own. It will clearly void your warranty, but that was a choice I made.

This morning on the way to work, using a simple stopwatch I saw 30-100 mph in 10.1 seconds through the stock CBE. My GTech Pro accelerometer showed the same time within a tenth of a second. This is close to two full seconds quicker than stock with just intake and DP/RP.

I don't use clutch drops from a dig to measure performance gains because the launches for our cars are so tricky and I'm still experimenting on getting consistent 60 ft. times. But measuring times from 30 mph on up eliminates the variations in launch and gives consistent, repeatable numbers to evaluate mods.

I say the DP/RP replace is the better performance value if you can live with handling your own warranty problems, if any.

Thanx for the suggestions... I guess i am gonna wait on the cbe for now, as 300 whp is my real goal at this point, and Ive seen many posts stating our stock exhaust can handle that... i guess i am gonna grab a Cobb sts and a street unit motor mount kit( all 3 mounts) .. and Cobb stage 2 suspension... the DP will wait a month or so because with the just a Cobb sri i have plenty of power for now...
