Cobb AP Discussion Thread

"Destroy" is such a hard word. Will it make your ECU explode? No.

It would be more likely that you could corrupt your ECU. Which could be anything as minor as throwing some random cels here and there to full on not running your car anymore.

Are you out of warranty? Out of warranty you need to buy a new ECU, under warranty you return ECU to stock and go back to the dealer with the WTF story.

Okay, so after driving from NE New Mexico, up I-25 to Denver, then West on I-70 through the mountains to Grand Junction, I saw my car getting around 32+mpg on the flat and straight highways and anywhere from 26-29mpg through the mountains. This is all at 80mph, a trunk and backseat full of stuff, and my tires set to 38psi

Yeah, it's official. I love this car :D

Glad we could help! :) Hope you enjoyed the drive!

Ok I flashed with success! Running the Stage 1 91 atm because I'm all stock still.
Flash is still learning but everything feels pretty good.

I got my AP the other day, but am hesitant to try it. What happens if a flash fails?
Is the ECU destroyed?

(hand) Well the only time I have ever heard of something like this happening is if your battery dies while its flashing? And I dont even know if that is true. Flash it, run it easy for 100 miles, then drop the hammer.

Yeah, even more good mileage today. Got 400 miles out of my tank for the day and that was again at 80+mph. Only problem was when I got into Idaho around Mountain Home, I had a really really REALLY nasty head wind. My mileage dropped down to below 20mpg :(

The thinner air probably didn't help either.

How is everyone getting such good gas mileage, i'm running stage 2+MSCAI and the best i can get around city is about 17 MPG. I get under 300 Miles on a tank. Tire pressure is at 38 and i shift at 3k RPM.

you are stage 2, catless im assuming? Probably getting into boost... whenever the car hits boost, most turbo cars start eating fuel... the stage 1 cars still have the cat and are a bit more laggy....

get your car on the highway and look at your accessport fuel mileage readout

wait... nvm, you are a stage 1+ car... probably love the gas pedal lol

This could be for a number of reasons. I would want to know what your LTFT's are and how far out of whack your MAF sensor is. One could also argue it's the VTA. I would imagine your MAF sensor wasn't properly calculated after your last flash.

How do you do this MAF sensor thing?

When you are taking it easy on your car after a reflash, that is what you're doing. You can also do it manually through AccessTuner RACE.

I think that most people do not give their ECU ample time to relearn the car's fuel trims and that's how they end up with screwed up LTFT's and such. I can see why it would be hard to control your right foot after an upgrade though. Everyone wants to see if their money was well-spent.

I took it easy this time around. I had to pull the battery to get the PG TIP in. I was going to reflash anyway, and now I'll have to reflash after I put the FMIC on.

im running the stage 2 because i have the test pipe but soon im getting my cp-e catless dp on. im going to reflash it and baby the car for the first 100 miles or so n see if maybe that helps

Ok,
Here's a log from after letting the flash settle. I've run a couple and the highest boost spike I've seen is 19.72, but everything is hanging in the 18s.

Take a look and tell me what you see.

Now that I'm in Washington at sea level and I have nice, cool air, this car feels SO much peppier. I also picked up my Corksport turbo back exhaust today. Should have that installed within the next couple of days and then I'm dynoing Jenna on Saturday. Think Stage 2 should be good? Or is there another flash that I should use? Mods are in my signature :)

Are you dynoing with someone who is can tune Cobb software? I'm pretty sure there is a place in Washington that Cobb is partnered up with. That would be my recommendation. If you're going to pay for a dyno, you might as well pay a little extra and get the full-on tune with it.
