Cobb Airbox

I can get you pictures. What would you like to see?

-Derrick

I want to see one disassembled to its component pieces, with each identified.
There are any number of us that would consider buying one and modifying it for whatever intake we have if we could see the pieces and judge if it might be possible.

I can't imagine 2-4degrees having a notable effect on performance, maybe hp LOL!
Not worth the money/ hassle. It would be more of a "feel good" mod than anything but I can think of a ton of other s*** worse to spend 50 bucks on or whatever it cost lol.

DYNO numbers aren't going to prove anything; the real world environment can't be adequately simulated with a fan blowing on the car. I believe the strongest fans out there just blow enough air to stimulate ~30mph at most (weak sauce)

Monitor ambient / intake and boosted air temps with an SRI and you’ll see that intake temperatures (once moving) go down within + 2-4 degrees of ambient rapidly.

Better yet, find someone with a MS3/ CAI and race (Legally) and then switch cars and try again. What you’ll find is that there’s absolutely no +1 for either car, both perform identically with every thing else being equal. Been there done that.

i think its worth it. a lot of thought and research went into it. should be good. i have absolutely no data to prove this... but i like corksport:)

Do we know if this changes the sound of the Cobb SRI at all? I'm getting a bit tired of the sucking sound it makes and would like to quiet this a little bit.

Installed mine tonight... took about 30 minutes using flashlight and security light on house lol... Seems to be made out of some type of plexiglass, or as CS says, "high temperature resistant fiber reinforced plastic". Great fit. Only suggestion to CS is to use lock washers on the 6 hex bolts holding the lid on, instead of just flat washers.

Pic 2 is hard to see, but beneath the lamp plug is probably where most of the cool air will come from... looks like it's between the fender liner and bumper cover...

Instructions were kind of ok... left out the page about drilling a hole to use the nylon push screw if i wanted to attach the lid to the car frame... I didn't do that part though.. it's plenty secure as it is...

Also, don't forget to reattach the MAF sensor, like I did, <-- Fail... lol...

I would love to see a dyno..and also the feedback from people who are using this setup. I honestly dont think your gain anything that your gonna feel,BUT I do commend Corksport for a job well done and least thier trying to make a coldbox for us ms3 guys,Its more than alot of companies are doing..so props there..and atleast it cant hurt..your talking cooler air temps..even by a small margine..any little bit helps. Now is it worth MY money, well thats the million dollar question lol. I kinda like opening my hood and seeing my sexy amsoil air filter on my cobb intake.(popcorn)

I'm just throwing this out there...

How many people that are all excited about this have jumped into one of the SRI vs CAI debates saying how the CAI is not any better than a SRI?

So is it[airbox] worth it the money....I don't think so.

Thank you for the pics.
So it appears that the air source is the vents in the high pressure area of the inner fenderwell. Much like the CAI, but with a bit of a shield around the filter. I like the looks, which I suspect will be the primary gain from this if used as is.
I personally have other things to purchase first (both for the car and in other areas) so for now I will not be indulging myself with this piece, but I have ideas for which this could be very useful down the road. I just hope it is still available when I`m ready. I picture a completely heat tape wrapped intake (this isn`t about looks for me) with this thing ducted to the outside via large diameter insulated tubing. No place for underhood heat to penetrate the system. I`m not convinced that the so called CAIs sold right now are different enough from an SRI to have much of an effect. A sealed, insulated system might be enough to make a real difference.

Great pics man, let us know how it sounds vs. without the airbox.

Thanks! The sound is still there... you can definitely still hear the hissing sound of the SRI when you're on the gas.

At light throttle, the sound is muted and when I'm cruising on the freeway, I don't hear the hissing sound (although now I can't remember if there was a hissing sound at freeway cruising before lol)
