Clutch noise

umm sorry i am pretty newbie at sticks... but after i got my car for like 30 min practicing stick.. i've been hearing sound whenever i step on the clutch and it came from the back or something. I think i can tell between a turbo and some weird ass noise... so i doubt its the turbo doing it... anyone here can lighten me up?

I'd suggest u learn stick on a crap car 1st... then drive your MSP. You're going to be dumpin some serious $$$ into it soon if your not careful.

I agree the sounds are probably techniqyue but it should not take too long to learn. Try and ease the clutch out as you press the gas, real gentle. You are breaking in the car anyway so need to fly off the line. For each gear change be very methodical - let up on gas, push in clutch, hold for a sec, slip to neutral, slip to the next gear, ease out clutch, lightly press gas. Sorry if this sounds patronizing but I know everyone wants to do it all in one go...

Get a relative or friend to show you, and good luck! Congrats on the car too. In CA you have the pick of great tuners and I'm sure in the CA sunshine your car rules - unlike my salt and spray covered piece with ugly 15" snows and a cracked windshield (thanks to a flying salt chunk).

trying to slow him down... give him extra time to get the next gear right... hey he could learn double-declutching and heel and toe from the get go!

Pretty vague description ... but if the sound is coming from the back its not engine related, this car is front wheel drive. It could be that famous busshing clunk that I've seen on so many posts. But what do i know.

Without knowing if the car is rolling or not it could still be the bushings, remember the car sqwats when the clutch is engaged and would relax when the clutch is pushed in ... just picture the old nissan 300's.

ahh thx for help guys... for the first an hour and a half my friend was teaching me everything... the next day... stalled only 3 times :)... for some odd reason i stall only when i am alone.. with friends... drive pretty steady and good.... but yea its prob the brushing problem most of u guys encounter... um i should have check all post throughly first :) o well... oo yea i love my protege, the center of attention on the freeway hahah.. but most of my friends said the car is too bright.. they dont like orange... i guess that's why they made this limit edition... only for unique ppl like all of us who own a orange msp :P peace out...

could be the rear clutch transaxle defribulator

It might also be the Jupiter Rings.. Credit to the Onion.com.

I have the same sound when I let out the clutch in 1st gear. I hear a click from the rear. I am assuming the bushing situation

hey, yeah, i get some funky noise when im accelerating. like if i keep it under 3,000 RPM, i can shift fine, no noise or anything. if i give it some more gas before shifting, shift about 4-5,000 RPM, i hear this wierd noise. It kinda sounds like the tires a little bit. the roads are kinda wet tonight, could that be a possibility?
it doesnt sound like grinding or anything, just kinda like if you stop fast. s*** i dunno. maybe i just need to give it more gas. like i said, its fine if im just going regular, no noise, easy shifting.
any ideas?

where is your noise coming from dex?

I have a noise if im trying to accelerate pretty qiuckly when i go to shift it sounds like it is coming from the engine. Really sounds like a BOV or intake or something sucking or blowing a surge of air right as I shift. When i have noticed these noises the shifts were perfectly smooth and there was NO feedback in the gas/clutch/car/steering wheel to indicate that something is amiss so I am kind of assuming its an intake type sound

yes slug thats exactly what im talking about, it sounds like its coming from the engine area. is that what a BOV sounds like? the shifts are still smooth and the clutch operation is still the same. does the noise sound for you right when you press the clutch? thats where is comes for me

stupid me if its just the BOV dur dur dur i forgot there was one.

Heyy.. I think I know what you guys are talking about. I just got my speed protege today and I hear something when I shift gears. I'm not sure what it is but I guess it can be described somewhat as the sound of an owl hooting... but really fast.. I dunno, does that make sense?

*edit* this doesn't happen every time i shift, or maybe it does.. i just can't notice it because i'm always bumpin my tunes way too loud :)
