Clutch Cushioning

Does anyone know what "clutch cushioning" is?

On the Mazda2 website it says the manual transmission "uses clutch cushioning so embarrassing starts won't keep you from impressing your friends".

i think clutch cushioning is a valve inside the clutch valves that slowly allows the fluid to pass through which makes it easier for new manual drivers by making it smoother and less stall proof. A lot of newer cars have it but its not as sensitive so its harder to gauge the clutch imo. im still having trouble adjusting to the feel of it compared to my 70s car lol.

BMW's have same..orifice to slow clutch fluid. "Clutch Delay Valve Delete" is very popular modification (Hydraulic clutch)

Here's the reply from Mazda as to what clutch cushioning is. I'm not sure what it means, sounds like a normal clutch to me, but I'm no expert:

Thank you for contacting Mazda. The clutch cushioning is a single dry plate with diaphragm spring.

How many miles you have so far?
I've got 1300 & just yesterday & today I've finally been able to get 1st & 2nd fairly smooth.
That doesn't make me feel better about all the times I've tortured the clutch in the previous 1200 miles, but hopefully I didn't take too much life off of it.

^ You and me both pal. I tried to launch it and feather the clutch one day and the cabin filled with burned clutch smell lol. I have almost 3000 miles.
