Clunk Updates

after taking my car to VT this past weekend driving around on the shittiest road ever around the condo complex my clunk has finally started to return... These roads looked the the moon... craters and bumps everywhere... not to mention it was -20 two of the days... clunk isnt to bad, only on hard bumps.. but it is back..

i got about 10k out of my 156D with out a clunk... about 9 months.

My car isnt clunking at all anymore.. I think it was just the tires bouncing off the ground because of the horrible road conditions. My car hasnt made a noise since i got back, and its been cold and nasty out latey, and i have been hitting bumps on purpoe.

Im still gonna try and get some new E's and a bar b4 my warrenty runs out. Also so i can sell the MP3 set up when i buy the micaspeed bar and brackets.

I agree girth.

Curious. How many times did you have your busings replaced on your speed since April? And how many kms on your car?

Wanted to take a picture of the road that killed my bushings but it's been covered in snow the last couple days...:(

Anyway, Newf I only had my bushings replaced 1 time on my MSP since buying it in April. So here's the breakdown:
* Bought it in late April.
* Got E bushings put on 6 months later in November with 8227 miles (13,240 km) on it.
* First noticed mild clunking in late January with ~10800 miles (17230 km) on odo.

I still want to get a pic of the F-ing road that did me in. After the last couple days I'm pretty certain it's the good 'ol clunk. Although today was snowy and warm (about 22*F, i.e. -5.5*C) and I didn't hear the clunk.:wtf:

so, you went 13,000 kms on your first set. How many of those kms you thing you went before the first bushings went. What I'm getting at is how long were you going around on bad/old bushings as that is hard on the bar and makes it wear faster.

anyways, just a thought. I would demand a new bar though because yours nis clearly NOT new.

im taking my car in tomorrow night.. hopefully i can persuade them into giving me a new bar as well... My warrenty is coming to an end very soon.

Yeah Newf I'm really not sure how many miles I went with the D's clunking because it was clunking for a while before I realized that it was an actual problem. I'd have to guess that I went at least 6,500 miles (10,460 km) with the D's clunking - and the months of September and October were with it HORRIBLY clunking because I didn't feel like going in just for another set of the D's...wanted to wait for the E's.

So I see where you are going with this and you could very well be correct for all I know. The problem is, since Mazda didn't mention changing the bar in the TSB I'm sure I have a snowball's chance in hell of actually getting the bar changed. I'm going to mention it to the dealership when I go back and stress to them that they give me a new bar but I will EAT s*** if I actually get one. On top of that I'm 100% certain I'd have to wait forever for the bar to get here too.

Does anybody know how much the Racing Beat bar costs if you get it through the dealer? If nothing else I'll even offer to pay for the new bar myself if I have to. I just have a feeling it'll be all in haste anyway - I still think a worn bar just makes the bushings fail sooner, that's all.

When I get the bushings replaced I'll post again with whether I got a new bar or not....

My dealer refuses to give me a new sway bar.... he assures me the newest bushing will rid my clunk.. I argued, then i just laughed as he basically told me i didnt know what i was talking about..:wtf:

I really just want a new bar so i can sell it with the E bushings when i buy micaspeeds bar/bushing/endlinks.:D

I'm not surprised. We can thank Mazda's stupid F-ing ass for that.(argh)

I'll mention this again to the Mazda guys i know. Maybe it'll start something.....no promises.
But maybe if they realize that the only ones to fail so far had old bars......they'll clue in and try something.

Well, my mazda guys basically said that no car that he's ordered to be done has come back. and he does bar/bushings each time.

Except mine as were trying the old bar first. Of course he can only speak for his district but knows of no other car that came back ......yet. That's in Canada with both bar/bushings done.

Ok, I can't find the service paperwork, soo exact miles and date are unknown, but:

At least 4,000 miles with the E bushings and a brand new bar, put on in mid-November, and not a single clunk. Conditions have been anywhere from low 60's to -10 (*F), rain, snow, ice all on New England roads (very bumpy and very sandy/salty this time of year), not to mention that I have to drive down a long dirt driveway for work, and it's nowhere near pothole/bump free. I'm starting to feel confident in the E bushings...but I do realize it's still a bit premature to say that they are "The Permenant Fix".

For sure, if you call it the FIX......it'll fail.

so I'm not saying nuttin

Yip,
mine already failed. almost 7500 Km and just hours before i heard the same damn noise when i went over a little snow bumb. tried it a couple of time and YA it"s coming back. Oh well it's MCI, what can i say?

i had my rear bushings and linkages replaced yesterday and i have no clunk ....

to be honest ... i think its gonna come back ... but im not going to wait for it to be coming back b/c im puting energy bushings in instead...

when putting the energy bushings in do u have to get a new sway? or just for another set of e bushings, cuz i know for damn sure mazda wont replace the sway bar.
