Clunk under WOT

Just curious as to the validity of claims I have heard that the engine in the MS3 can shift so violently as to hit the firewall. Just tonight I noticed a relatively loud clunk right during the 1-2 shift. Any ideas what that might be?

the sound was your warenty falliny out... ha ha ha

probably just some wheel hop or the mount reaching the end of movement

Yeah all mazdaspeed owners deal with the 1st - 2nd bang. Happens when shifting fast from 1st to 2nd when driving aggresively. Only way to avoid this is to hold the clutch in longer and let the rpms drop or upgrade your motor mounts.

The "bang" noise is normal, I experienced it when I first bought my car and took the damn thing back and demanded my money back for a POS, but then I check it over and everything was fine, and after the install of a CorkSport MMI, it doesn't "bang" noise anymore but you definately feel it.

its your exhaust system hitting the frame, do your self a favor and get a motor mount before you beat it

Get a new mount..stock or upgraded..ur is worn out and flexing more than it should..I had the same clunk when downshifting say from 3-2, 2-1 and it went away after I had the mount replaced..Im wen back to running the stock mount because I couldnt stand the vibrations throughout the cabin from the stiffer rear mounts..so I just deal with it.

i guess i don't shift hard enough...? because i haven't yet experienced the bang. i have a tendency to shift nicely from 1-2 because killing the drivetrain would suck. i go hard from 2-3 and 3-4 and get no bang.

if you want to beat on it a motor mount should be on your list. wheel hop alone can break a lot more than you would expect.
