clunk feeling on steering wheel when turning left...help?

First of all I am sorry if this is on the wrong thread, but I have had my car since august, its an 07 with only 25k on it bought it with 18k. Anyway, the problem is that when I'm at a stop getting ready to turn left I feel a slight clunk through the steering wheel not actually real loud. I don't know if this is normal or not. As far as when im driving and turning I dont hear or feel it, only when I start from a stop and engage in gear (when car jerks from shifting and turning) is when i feel it most. I dont know if its the motor mount or what but like i said its when im turn left as the clutch engages. So should I take it to the dealer since its still under bumper to bumper warranty? sorry for the long post, and if its confusing. sorry

I experience the same "clunk", but it happens only when backing up and putting the brake on, then going forward. Mazda couldnt duplicate my issue after taking it to them 3 times.....how surprising. I know that doesnt help, jus thought I would throw that in there.

Had same thing got worse took it to dealer and they fixed it sadly can't remember what it was exactly

I guess it wont hurt calling the dealer and having them check this out, Ill also ask if the clutch TSB has been done, which i doubt cause my clutch is up high makes me feel like a NOOB. How should I address this issue?

update.. My vin is 109006, does this mean im neither a type A or B? should i even try since i dont fall in theseVIN numbers?

My dealer did this steering column TSB before my warranty went out. They pretty much lubricated the whole column, I believe.

But for now, you could try re-adjusting the steering column's position..that helped me solve the clunk while turning....for a week until it came back again..

thanks guys for the tips, I tried calling the dealer but no answer, so will call tommorow. Im just weary of taking it to my local dealer cause they put the wrong oil in the last time i took it, had to take it back and made them change it, they also did a so called safety card 20 point inspection and to top it off they wrote my car down as a mazda6 non turbo. will post update on the situation when i call and get it back.

lol. some dealers make me laugh. no answer? not even a "here are our hours" or redirect to an operator/receptionist? wow. i see your at Bowling Green, if you wanna take a drive, try Montrose Mazda (in Westlake) or Mazda of Bedford. they have both been good to the local guys here.

I had this same issue and talked to the "noise" guy at the mazda dealership. He told me that a lot of speeds have this issue and if you move your steering wheel around to lubricate it about once a month that the issue should go away. He said that the steering column gets dry and you have to move it around to get the grease around again. Mine went away after he moved my column around.

I have a simliar issue. When I'm turning at slow speeds like in my development, I often get a little cluncking. I don't hear it as much as feel it like it was transmitted through the steering column, but the steering feels smooth and good otherwise.

I think there must be something a little bit loose somewhere, but I don't know what.

I have the exact same issue under the same circumstances, but mine is a bit more involved. I don't think the problem is with the steering column. In my car, the car feels as the front passenger side tire is lose. Like the tire shift position. It is bad enough that my passenger feels it. Once the passenger told me that he heard like the tire rubbed for a moment. I took it to the dealer to have them take a look but of course they didn't fin anything.

check your inner tie rod ends too. That's where my clunk/clicking comes from.

I want to take it to the dealer instead, cus my car is still under btb warranty, and those fuckers better cover it cus my car is completely stock still.

I just felt it today when i had the wheels turned sharp to left.

update on the clunking! I finally got around to taking car to the dealer and getting this issue checked out. Apparently no broken or worn parts, a lube job on the steering shaft has fixed the problem. The service guy asked me to take him on a quick drive around the lot to hear or feel the clunk. He heard it and asked to leave it for the day, called at 5 and it was ready. So if any of you guys are having this problem and still have warranty have it taken care of. So this can be closed now. Thanks for the hints and help.

I will be taking mine in then. I also discovered that since I'm running 235s the tire rubs slightly on the inside so I need like 5mm spacer.

guys, reach down, losen up the lever for adjusting the steering wheel up/dwn and telescopic in/out. Push the steering wheel in as far as it goes, then pull it out as far as it goes. Do this several times. Put the wheel back towhere you like it and hopefully all is well again.

It's just lack of lube on the shaft...lol. And we all know that ain't good.

just to let you guys know, I did the column adjust and it did not work for me so I took it to dealer, and to save time their tell the service guy that a friend has had this problem and that it was lack of lube around the steering shaft. should take a few hours.
