Cloudy windows

1995 Mazda Protege DX
Hello all!

I just bought a 1995 protege DX. I have noticed that the windows seem "cloudy" or opaque, as if they were slightly dirty. But I have cleaned it pretty well with windex, inside and out, and it only helps a little. If it fogs up during the cold weather, than its really a problem.

Has anyone ever experienced this? Do old windshields opacify the way that headlight casings do? I have never bought a car this old. I still have some of that paste that is supposed to make the headlight glass clear (it didn't work for me). Should I try it?

Also, has anyone ever tried that RainX defogger? Any tips for windshield defogging? The air vent doesn't "switch" all the way to defrost, and some of the air still comes to the cabin, so it doesn't defrost well.

Thanks in advance!

That could be paint overspray. To check, take a new, single-sided razor blade and carefully "shave" the discoloration. If it clears up, you may be able to remove the rest by using a paper towel (wear nitrile gloves) with some acetone. Be very careful not to let the acetone touch anything but the glass!

I have not tried RainX defogger.

Use 70% isopropyl alcohol (get it at any pharmacy) to clean the windshield with a microfiber cloth.

If the cloudiness is caused by paint overspray, alcohol isn't strong enough. But if it's handy, it's worth a try.
