Check Out My New Screen

oh yea another thing. . .how are you going to mount the screen. i know the double din spot is probably where it's going to go but are you going to get someone to mold it in with fiberglass or somehting. . ..that would be the s*** and look integrated. . .that's about the only thing stopping me from not getting a flip out monitor

I've already tried custom mounting an LCD in the Dash heres a pic:

I plan on either recycling this LCD mount or making a better one.

About the heater, dont you have the option to not turn on the floor vents?

With an ITX case its small enough to mount it higher or far up enough as to not get kicked by people. I dont have people sitting in the back very much so I am not too worried about that one.

yea you can turn off the floor vents but altogether not just just be able to turn off the back ones. you can always do waht Nuke did and just stuff the vent with some foam so no air goes through it but it was just a precaution. i was just saying that if some peopel would need to use the heater a lot (not me as im in FL and neither you in TX)

where did the osd buttons for the lcd go? err that looks really good and makes me consider the touchscreen (i was going to use a gamepad set with like 10 macros to control everthing in media engine)
hmm. .. that mount looks pretty clean what did you use to make it. . .. . maybe ill consider doing that as the HU is not really needed and i wouldn't mind having it look integrated

hey i was wondering if you could post the price for that screen here maybe?

ive been lookin around for a nice VGA screen to use w/ my Celeron 533mhz FlexATX system running DashPC on Red Hat Linux. i was going to go with a Datalux unit with SC3 compatible touchscreen on ebay for about 200. i dont know about the feasibility of using any old screen though, because i am concered about the brightness level. what is the brightness level on these units? ive read that 300 nits should be enough for general car use.

another issue though is the actual mounting of the unit, because i want to keep the kenwood and under unit pocket looking stock. so... bleh...

I had the longest reply typed up but the damn cable internet went out and I closed the browser thinking it was sent....

I am soldering wires to external switches for the power and adjustment switches. That is a different screen (non VGA). I made the bezel out of plexiglass and bondo. I plan on doing a short how-to for that in the future.

The screen can be had for $449.95 plus shipping from http://dscustoms.com/

I will try to get the techincal details on it for you. I belive it will be bright enough as it is made for this application.

It comes with a stand mount that you can stick to the dash or screw into something.;)

brightness of most of the xenarc screens are 250 nit but with a touchscreen overlay it will be a little less. . . .but tint will make it more readable during the daY

custom is the way to go. . .move the kenwood to where the ashtray is if you really want to keep the HU and this flush mounting does look stock and it's cool. . just and idea
