Wanna play a fun game? Guess my check engine light!!!!!!!!

My check engine light came on while driving to work this morning- I took it very easy there and back. I got home, checked the oil, all hoses, and my SRI and inlet pipe: all seemed to be okay. I'm working on getting the stuff I need to actually check the light, but thought you'd all like to share your experiences with CELs on the MS3 and perhaps you guys know of a common code or problem that exists.

2008 Sport- 56,500 miles
Only mod is a Corksport SRI

Let the games begin!

here's a fun game...drive to your nearest autozone and have them walk out to your car with their cheapass obdII scanner and tell you what the code is.

i win!

come on guys.....take a guess... don't ruin the party by bringing the ugly chick
anyways, yeah autozone tonight or tomorrow i guess! the car is running fine, so I'm not overly concerned, but still- thanks for playing

hahaha man I don't know- your witty sarcasm has gone over my head and it has been a long day: I tried to compete, but you win!

Anyways Autozone (the ugly chick) tells me

CODE P0401
Insufficient EGR flow

Probable causes:
1. Blocked EGR Passage
2. Faulty EGR valve
3. EGR boost sensor malfunction
4. EGR boost sensor solenoid valve malfunction

So, can anyone show me a picture of exactly where/what the EGR valve is- I thought someone else posted about this, and am about to use the fantastic search to find it, but if someone knows it off hand and wants to post here please let me know. I guess the first step is to clean the EGR and see what happens.

Found some info, but more help is welcome:

sluggish acceleration

Lately been having random sluggish acceleration while CEL flashs then remains solid. But i stop, or pull over and let car idle, and BAM sucka is back to normal. Already took car to shop, they changed spark plugs, wires, and cleaned EGR Valve. What else can be done? or what else could it be?

Gonna take CAI out clean it along with MAF and sensor. Anyone else got this issue, tell me what it was....por favor!

OaklandOpen, you sir, are the man!

I'm going to download the service manual next- I hope that is where you got this info from- since I need to know how to test some of this stuff to follow your steps here. I really hope the thing just needs cleaned or unblocked, because $400 bucks is damn expensive!

Thanks agan for all the help! I really can't even begin to say how much I appreciate it, because I would pretty much be lost searching around the internet for what to do without Mazdas247

took off the egr valve today-it was covered in gunk and sticking closed. cleaned it real good and now NO CEL! I hope it works out- at least for a while

I'm sort of a noob, but will a catch can help prevent this gunk from getting to the EGR valve, or is it not routed in the same line? $100 is a lot cheaper than $400!
