check engine light???

check engine light came on this morning for the first time. it came on as soon as i turned the key. what would cause the light to come on from being stationary all night long. mods are intake, rkm bpv, and test pipe, and removed 2nd resonator. all mods have been on my car for several months....i didn't have time to go to autozone to see what code it was throwing, but i reset the ecu and if it comes back on, then i'll go.

umm do you have the catless test pipe because I know my friend does on his a4 and he has an o2 sensor after it so his check engine light comes on because of that. If you have a high flow cat then idk

and btw....i wouldn't take the car in with a test pipe to the dealer....goto autozone and get the code read and go from there

Find some location that will check the code for you or a friend with a DashHawk.
Take it to the dealer when you find out what the code is.

What intake are you running?

i have the SU test pipe but why would it wait several months before getting the CEL? and i have the COBB intake...

also, since i reset the ecu yesterdaty, it has not come back on yet....so we'll see.

get the code read.
evap codes come on after a while. don't know if you have any problems like that.
is your recirc hose tight?
any way to monitor afr?
code might be too lean or too rich at idle.
or it could be as simple as a random misfire

well johns, looks like you were right....took it to autozone today cause the CEL came back on... the code is P0442, and could be any of these reasons : faulty fuel cap, canister faulty, purge valve solenoid faulty, damaged/leaking EVAP hose, faulty EVAP leak detection pump.....

is the EVAP hose the recirc hose? i have the silicone one from dabears, didn't think it would leak since it's more durable. and the purge valve solenoid, what is that? the BPV?

i would check the obvious there, aka the gas cap. there has been some issues with it.

No dude, all that stuff is emissions/fuel related. I would check your Gas Cap first, followed by taking it to the dealer to have them check the Purge Valve as there is a TSB for it. I would check with your dealer first to see if they are mod friendly as they might blame your SRI on the Purge Valve issue.

EVAP is a b**** to trace. There was a guy on one of the forums who actually poked a hole in his EVAP line when he installed an AMP under the passenger seat.

Odds are the dealer will replace the Purge Valve and your problem will go away. Just be sure to verify they are Mod friendly and will not be stupid and blame your SRi. Or simply put on your stock airbox and you will be golden as the test pipe has nothing to do with your issue.

well i just finished putting my stock bpv back on, even though my dealer is mod friendly, i don't wanna risk it. although the service director at my dealer is pretty cool and he actually will prolly remember that i had aftermarket parts. he even asked if i had gotten the Forge BPV. so he seems pretty knowledgable on parts out there.

i'll give him a call and see what he says.

well, since i swapped bpv's and reset ecu, the cel has not came back on...it's been over 100 miles.....hmm, we'll see.

oh it won't. my understanding of evap codes is that they come on if something has been wrong for a while. but i'm not 100% on that.
like i said, i threw on, didn't even note it, cleared it, and called it a day. **** that

well, after 130 miles, the cel came back on now....i'll be takin it to the dealer on my next day off.....

dunno yet....gotta run by autozone first.....but i'm almost sure it's the same code cause just like the last time, the cel came on as soon as i turned the car on
