Does the warranty still apply if the dealership doesn't do the install?

It becomes the gray warranty instead of the green warranty as far as i know,

And to the guy that got the wrong one is there any chance my dealer did the same thing and they are gonna try and put it on? it absolutely will not fit I hope...

Don't worry...the one for the M3 won't fit a MS3.... you will be ok.

The one for the M3 won't fit a MS3 -- you will be fine. BTW, the official warranty on a dealer installed MS CAI is 12,000 miles or 1 year. (On the CAI itself. The more important thing is that if anything else goes wrong with your engine, the regular 3 year / 36,000 mile warranty is not affected by the addition of the CAI.)

my dealership said you can put it on yourself and it would be fine...I dont think it is a ggod idea that you have the dealer do it because then they have it on record, and for some ****** up reason they could blame a problem on that

what the hell fun is that?! paying people to work on your car? you may as well keep it stock if you can't do the work yourself. it's not like you're splitting atoms. it's a cold air intake! thats all. anyone on here do their own work or does everyone bring their car to the dealership for something as simple as this? how do you learn about your car if you never turn a wrench on it? i just don't get it.

I have worked on plenty of cars in my time...thank you very much. (Especially in the early 90s most of the cars and trucks were from the mid to late 80s.) I have swapped out carbs, changed heads / valve gaskets, etc., and completely changed entire brake systems. (Master cylinder, drums / rotors, etc.)

Let me explain a little more about why I would not do this particular job myself. First, I no longer have access to the tools and equipment I once did. Sure, this isnt an extremely complex job, but it isnt an oil change either. Second, there is a value of my time factor. Considering that the Mazda techs are taking between 1.5 2.5 hours to do this job (with all the proper tools in the proper environment), I would assume I would need about 3 hours to do it. Three hours of my free time is worth way more than $160 to me. Finally, I have know way too many guys who have modded cars themselves, only to have it come back and bite them in the ass when something goes wrong. Even if the mods were done right, these guys would always have to revert their cars to stock before taking them to the dealer. (Or risk getting caught with a modded engine. The rumor was the dealers would tag your car somehow as modded. I dont knowbut that is what they said.) I knew a guy who pulled his turbo / tuner box out of his Integra no less than 5 times. Granted, that is an extreme case, but I would rather pay $160 and be 100% sure my warranty is intact.

Why take the risk the warranty and 3 hours of my time for $160? You said yourself that I wasnt going to be splitting any atoms, so how much could I really stand to learn on this particular task?

In the time it took you to write all that you could have been half done already :)

I see your point though in being warrenty safe

Nah...I type really fast!

(mswerd)

i did the install myself, and it took about 2 hours with a flathead driver, philips driver, and a 10mm socket. i thought it was quite easy, the longest part was reading the directions between every step and verifying i understood each part. i could probably do it on another ms3 in about 45 minutes to an hour.. so i think the mazda guys should be able to by now.

Just bought it 10 minutes ago. $319 shipped from Ken at Progege Garage.

Progege Garage rocks. Great experience ordering my CAI from them (thumb)

Ordered from my dealership for $399 installed. Figured since the avg price is about 300 or so shipped. An extra 100 to get it installed by the dealer is quite fair.

$310 shipped Ron Tonkin Mazda

Same here and free installation. Believe me, $160 for 3 hours of my time is a damned good trade off. (eekdance) About $53.33 per hour in my pocket!(idhitit)
