Cheap fill up today.

$2.65 for 91 octane here in the bay area. I couldn't believe that I got a full tank for less than $30 today... I almost wanted to cry

1.95 for regular, filled the speed up with 93 octane from the gas light being on for 28.00, 12 gallons. Yee haa! To bad I got laid off last Monday, company is heading for the ditch. We/they do the marketing distribution for the big3 (soon to be small 3) and everytime they pinch they hit us for more money back. Cut out more than half of middle management in 4 hours.

Times are only just getting really bad for big 3 workers and supplier companies. It's going downhill a fair bit farther before the dust settles.

Shame too, since the workers are taking the brunt of it, instead of inept entrenched detroit management who are the real problem. Try building what your customers really wanted in the first place. for a fair price and this wouldn't be happening. They had a clear choice to make back in the 70s when the decline started, and choose to do nothing or worse.

It is sad. Almost wish the Gov. wasnt going to help so it all just fell out completely and they could get over it and rebuild correctly. It is strange.

Sorry for the thread jack. One thing most people can say about the declining economy (barring you have not been laid off or are in foreclosure) is cheap gas! Truck and SUV sales have again risen. Amazing how naive people REALLY are. Dumb is a better word.

+1. Sorry about being laid off, but I agree with you. The labor unions dragged the American auto manufacturers to a point where they simply cannot compete with others for bang-for-buck. I forgot the value, but it's about 50% of their revenue goes directly into paying retired laborers. They've been on the decline for decades, and unfortunately I don't see how they could recover.

You are right, they probably wont recover. My grandparents are retired white collar GM workers chomping their lips as they stand to lose everything. The pension money stops and health coverage is already gone. They will be destitute if bankruptcy happens although knowingly understand it has to happen and will eventually. I think they were just hoping it happened when they were gone.

$1.97 for regular and $2.19 for premium in Tallahassee, FL. I never thought I'd be able to fill up for under $30 this year.

This is GM MANAGEMENT and board at fault here. For years those hard working employees were told their pension was covered, they didn't lead extravagant lives. GM management consistently failed to properly fund their pensions and health coverage when they KNEW the costs and HAD the money but choose to divert those funds overseas and found foreign companies which are now doing just fine no thanks to the missing pension funds. Now everyone blames "bloated worker packages"
