Changing the battery

Hey there,

Do I really need to remove the red bar in my P5 to change the battery?
The screw are freaking hard to remove!
Any tips to unscrew easily in -20oC weather!

You do need to remove it to replace the battery. All it takes is a good 1/2" drive 17mm socket and a breaker bar. WD 40 will not help. It's tight to keep the strut towers from flexing.

If they are really really really stuck you can take the intake apart to get the battery out. This will probably take a lot longer than getting some WD40 and getting the strut brace off.

Are there any concerns with removing the cross-brace or is this something I should take into a shop? I've replaced batteries before, but never had this crossbrace to deal with.

Thanks,
Bob

No harm removing the cross-brace yourself. It will not hurt anything to drive around with it removed. Regular Protege's didn't have a cross-brace.
