Changing Spark Plugs

I am about to change the Spark Plugs on my MSP to the NGK BKR7E'S. I know that I want to gap them to at least .28-.32. Now what tool is used to actually adjust the gap? I have the gapping tool and it seems that my plugs need the tip to be pushed down a bit. In addition how are the ignition wires to be removed. Will I hold the nipple portion and pull up? I just don't want to damage the wires. And lastly I have a socket wrench with the spark plug connector. Will I need to purchase an additional extension to get them in there? Thanks :)

Yep, use a small hammer, or tap the top on a hard surface to close the gap between the electrode. Once you get it closed enough, just regap it. =)

In order to remove the wires, just pull one end from the coil (The black boxes atop the two not connected with wires), then unplug the other end by pulling on the sealing boot. Should pull up pretty easily.

As far as the extension, you'll need at least a 6 inch extension... Probably should get a 9 inch or so, just to be on the safe side, so you aren't wrenching too close to stuff. It'll be easier like that.

Hope this helps!

just press them against the table.....or use a rubber hammer.

pull on the base and it will come out

the extension might be more expensive than the "sparkplug tool"
i think i got mine for $3.99 at autozone.
it works great and has a rubber ring at the base to hold the sparkplug in place.

yup what Dr. Sound said works fine! Any extension over 3 inches should work. I just used a deep socket and it worked fine.

If you go with a 6 inch or 9 inch extension, consider the locking ones. They won't let go of the spark plug socket until you push a spring loaded button. It means you won't ever have the socket come off deep inside the head. Probably not an issue on the MSP, but can come in handy on other cars where it's harder to get to the plugs. :)
