CF turning yellow

I have a carbon fiber hood and after about 1 1/2 years its starting to turn yellow and blotchy in places. At night, it still looks amazing in street light, but during the day it looks horrible. Is there anything I can do to fix it? Is it the clearcoat that is the problem?

I searched around, but couldn't find much on the subject.

Well that might be ok if it wasnt for the fact that the clear thats on it is probaly directly in contact with the CF and would probably need to be sanded off before recoating...otherwise you are just resealing the yellow effect....Hence my comment..

The hood has never been waxed.

I did some reading and found that it probably has to do with the resin used by the maker. Anyone else having this problem on their DG hood?

i just got a used DG hood. It is used and he has used it for 3 years. It stills looks like it came out of the box. He told me to wax it every week.

Yeah, college student plus job doesn't leave much time for waxing. Also, its sort of a winter car only. In summer it sits in a garage several states away and it's not worth doing when it snows all the time and ruins a wash/wax job.

I only wax mine a few times during the summer. It's doesn't have any discoloration but the clearcoat is pitting. WW was supposed to replace it but of course now that won't happen.(boom07)

when I said re-clear it I didn't mean to do it half-assed and just apply another clearcoat on top of the old one. It needs to be sanded first than recleared

Well ..are you gonna sand all of the old clear off....Thats kinda immpossible if you know how this is made.....Just stop...You seem to not have a clue...Sorry.

ummm, no. you can sand practically all of the clear off the cf. it's not something you bang out in 30 min or something. you have to take it to a shop that knows what they are doing. of course you prob wont get all the clear off, but I bet most if not all of the yellow will come off. and stop sounding all high and mighty you ass.

Sanding and reclearing will not help. It is the resin they used that is clouding/yellowing.

I wasn't..I just told you to stop spreading info if you don't know what your talking about....Thats half the problem with this board...guys chime in when they "THINK" they know what they're talking about only to spread false info to people that don't know any better....If you don't know for sure..then you shouldn't chime in with an "ANSWER" to a question.
