Cel P2177, P2187 Help Help

Not really sure on your mods cause i dont know what your abreviations mean but if there coming on randomly it could be your CAI(if you have one lol) my MS CAI did that to me last winter. Unless it stays on then i wouldnt worry about it to much.

If you have one of the older MS CAI's (pre-2008), then chances are it does not have an air straightener in it. The MS CAI is built by AEM and relabeled as a Mazdaspeed part.

The new AEM Mazdaspeed3 CAI has the air straightener in it. It is a black plastic part that fits into the intake tube section with the MAF sensor mounting point. The straightener goes between the MAF sensor and the first intake tube section (that has the air filter on its end).

The part is available from AEM by itself, it's around $15.00. I would try this first, it's cheap and easy.

I have an older Mazdaspeed3 CAI and it was throwing these codes constantly. I would clear the code, and within 2 days the code would return. I had the dealer rip the CAI out and reinstall the stockbox so the car would pass smog in Cali (long story). No CEL's.

I just reinstalled the CAI w/ the air straightener. It's now been 3 days post-install, and no CEL's at all.

I got the P2187 Lean at idle recently after installing a Forge BPV. The only other mod I have is a CP-E Nano SRI. It was running without a CEL when I just had the intake. Could it be a faulty BPV?

This is very interesting. Do you have more information on buying this part? I have never had a problem with my MS CAI, since installing it in early '07. But if this is an improvement, I want one, especially if it is that inexpensive.

I got lucky, another guy I know via internet offered to buy several and ship them out to us. IIRC the order was filled by Toysport in SoCal and shipped directly to me. The part # is 9-21070.

I believe Summit Racing also has this. You can do a dealer locator via AEM's website and contact the nearest dealer to you.

If you get snowjobbed by the dealer, AEM has confirmed that the part is in fact available separately. I would tell the dealer that you have an AEM intake, not the mazdaspeed intake. Unless AEM has made a drastic change in the last month or so to the diameter of their intake, the straightener will drop right in.

a vendor on this forum has them, jscspeed. i have two...one in the car and one on my desk for whoever wants one
