"System Too Lean (Bank 1)"

Does this mean there is too much Gas, or Too much Air?
I have a SS AFC, it has been working all summer, and all of november and december. so i cant see how it could just stop working now. But it could be the prob.

any other ideas?

Humm, oh ya, well i was driving on the highway, and my car was "wobbly" felt almost like the tires were lose. So i pulled over and checked them all. nothing wrong. Start the car, and boot it back into traffic. was all good, then the turbo kicked in. Felt jumpy, and it studdered. so i laid of the gas. and the CEL came on. drove it for a bit to the gas station, got out my scanner. Tosses a P0171. I say **** it, and drive for 2days. and everything is fine now. even feels to be boosting right. but the CEL is still on. I havnt re-set it yet.

should i check something, or just let it go?

P.S the Wobbly was just the stupid Quebec road. My friend said he felt it too when driving over the same place.

lean usually means not enought gas or too much oxygen
well if everything seems back to normal... erase the CEL and see if it comes back

i would get it checked out,
if its running lean, your risking your motor!
Get it checked out so you dont regret it after

I think what might be is the clamp isn't working for you or ECU has "learned" about clamping.
I had the same thing when I had Emanage hooked up with clamped O2 signal and in the beginning was working fine until about a yr later it started to pull that same CEL and it coming and going but it came up when i punched the gas paddle hard some times.
Once i got Emanage off with the clamp it went away and never showed up.

to make sure your not going lean you just double check with AFR gauge you have or do some datalog.

bad o2 sensor usually....try pulling it out and cleaning with brake cleaner or replacing it.....it will be the first one more than likely, the one at the mani

i dont understand anything you said.

well that's up to you.. but those pieces are pretty expensive if it's actually not the problem

vacuum leak, boost leak, maf sensor dirty, bad maf sensor, bad primary o2 sensor, EGR leak, fuel pressure leak, etc.

it could be a bunch of reasons why the car is runing lean but the problem is to find out where its runing lean. a scan tool and a wideband would tell you whats going on in engine. if not mechanically inclined or do not have these resources to check those possibilities of problems, then have a mechanic that does to check it out.

if none of you guys really noticed here, He lives in montreal quebec where temperatures are well into the -10 to -30 Celcius, the colder denser air is going to make the engine read really lean especially if he has the ss afc. Most people i know that have the ss afc lean their car out a bit because of the bad stock map. So if he leaned it out in the summer with the warmer less dense air, now with the cold he will really lean out due to the difference in the air density's.

i agree and think this should be the first thing to look at

i guess its just us Canadians who think of this first since we're used to the summer and winter tunes haha

its from the cold air of winter...the colder air is denser so more gets through your MAF reads more air and tries to dump more gas. with the SS AFC that gets remapped to something way less rich then stock so if you were flogging the car to get back in traffic you could have been leaning out in the upper RPMs

all that to say +1 on needing a winter tune...or do what I do...don't boost in winter. I know it sucks

ya, but its funny because the day it happened was like -4. And i never got it on days when its like -20

i re-set the CEL so will see what happens. i dont have the DB9-USB cable, so i cant change the MAP. i might try and get one tho.

im free to install that bracket tho, if your not doing anything this week

yeah but even on stock map you will get fuel cut. Im running in saskatchewan here, with -15 to -25 weather depending on the day here, and im still on stock ECU with only mods being full 2.5" tbe, and a short ram intake, and if i am hard on the gas i will hit fuel cut. And my A/F ratio gauge tells me this too, its just cause its cold out.
