catless with no CEL ?

my cel came on in 4 hrs hahha. probably the highway drive, so im switching to GHL. plus catless is way to loud for me, or the exhaust can they put on is. It drones so bad.

having no 02 plugged in at all throws a CEL instantly... kinda obvious:) so I decided to go with this

Baker Electronics 02simulator. Works perfectly:) And when ricers ask me what that is under my hood blinking, I just tell them its my Supercharger Purge Actuator.(woowoo)

CEL at 730miles :) kind of scary since im not 100% sure its from the cat removal. could be some other reason.

Just get a cat-back setup and the Circuit Sports custom "downpipe" setup and you are all set. I have no drone, quiet at idle, nice rumble at lower RPM range (can hear the custom stereo perfectly). Nice deep rumble and louder "full range" sound at WOT and high RPM's. It pulls hard, too. Albert just experienced this a few hours ago. As everyone may now, I have the Greddy prototype setup on my car, I guess they are calling it an SP2 now. Since it has a resonator, I don't have the gurgling or anything (no rumbling or harshness at idle/startup/turnoff, etc). It matches up perfectly to the flanges and angles, too...no leaks or rattlings any longer. I am pretty happy. No CEL as of yet, but it hasn't even been 24 hours.

On the negative side, I do backfire if I keep revving and being stupid. It stinks a bit now, but not rotten egg smell. Also, I have a weird popping noise/jerking at certain throttle positions/boost levels. I will let the car get used to the setup before I judge too prematurely, though...thats my $.02 for what its worth...(rei)

MAM midpipe SS with a cat. The only thing I didn't like was how the cat was after the second o2 sensor. It would have made more sense to put it before the second o2 sensor.

There was a member whose custom setup was like that, and it was causing him to run very lean. Basically, the 2nd O2 sensor is there to make sure the cat is doing it's job, and since it was reading basically the same thing as the first, the fuel map leaned out to compensate for a cat that wasn't working properly. Do you have an EGT gauge by chance?

when the 2nd o2 sensor reads the same as the first one the car runs super rich.

Are you sure about that? If the sensor checks untreated exhaust fumes, it will see the mixture as very rich. The sensor's job is to maintain a certain A/F ratio, and since it thinks the car is running rich, it *should* lean it out to compensate.

im no mazda tech but ive read 3-4 threads where ppl experienced really low gas mileage after the CEL came on. blkzoomzoom what do u think?

it could take several miles, when i eliminated my first cat it took me approx three tanks of gas or ~1000+- miles before i got a cel then i put on the cel eliminater and no problems since.

After the CEL comes on, the computer goes into a limp mode, where it's just throwing copious amounts of gas into the mix just to keep things on the safe side. It would be interesting to see what a Mazda tech would say on the rich/lean issue. There are a few on this board, aren't there? I'm always willing to learn, even if it means I'm proven wrong in the process :D

the Midpipe wasn't specifically designed for the Mazdaspeed, therefore the O2 bung in it is actually for a WBO2, which should be before the cat. I guess Beau could of specified when making them. its not hard to relocate it behind the cat.

as for the "super rich condition due to the cat missing" is right, but its a byproduct of the CEL throwing the ECU into closed loop, preset maps, which are SUper rich.
