Cargo Space

Just doing a bit of reading as I'm considering the 3 hatch as the next car. Current car ('04 golf) is up over the 200k mile mark and I'm thinking of getting rid of it before it starts asking for parts to stay alive ;)

Question is, anyone mountain bike here? I can take the front wheel off the bike and fit it in the hatch of the Golf with the seats down pretty easily and I'm hoping it's possible in the Mazda as well.

Thanks!

^ I'm sure you can fit it in the 3 hatch with no problem, the car's quite bigger than the golf too I think.

Is it possible to flatten out the front passenger's seat with the rear seats down to create a flattish surface - i.e. if you need to carry something that's long front to back?

With front passenger seat all the way forward and seat back all the way reclined, plus the 40 portion or 60/40 back seat remaining up, you have a diagonal that is 8'+ and fairly flat and maybe about 10" wide. So, you can definitely carry 8' long lumber. Don't know how high your stack would be before it hit the glove box or the slope of the hatch door. If you wanted to carry something long and skinny like a pipe, you could fit one end into the foot well in front of the passenger seat with the other end tilting up towards the hatch door. I can see how this configuration would easily measure 9'+.
