Cargo cover alternatives

I was somewhat surprised that the cx5 does not come with some sort of rear cargo cover. My dealer wanted $235 for it... Found this is a little pricey.

Are there any alternatives to the Mazda oem model? Any DIY ideas?

The cargo compartment of the CX-5 is pretty private even without a cover, especially in the Touring and Grand Touring models with tinted glass. Even in the untinted Sport model it's not easy to see inside back there unless you go up and really look.

My previous two wagons (Passat, sold, and Protege 5, still owned) came with cargo covers which moved to a shelf in the garage within a few weeks of the cars coming home and were never used again.

Unless it's something you know you want, I'd say you won't miss it.

Should have just negotiated it into your deal. I got the cargo cover, door visors, rear bumper guard, cargo tray, and all weather mats all thrown in.

I find the cover extremely useful on my CX7. Keeps prying eyes out AND keeps the sun off my stuff. Came standard with my touring model. Ed

True..but I guess it's all relative. I squeezed the lemon as far as I could go and he wouldn't budge any further. I *think* I got a good (great?) deal on the car itself and he wasn't willing to throw much else in because of the price I paid. I got it for Dealer invoice + $800. (CAD) for the GT. This is the lowest I could get after going to visit 3 separate dealers in the Montreal area.

'could-a','would-a','should-a'...I'll never know for sure if I could have insisted on more.

PM me and we can exchange what we paid...

I bought mine at dealer parts counter using a 20% off coupon on their website. So the price was $152 (US $) and well worth it, the cover is well-designed.

Just tell your salesperson to get you a discount of at least 20%.
