Carbon Fiber SRI/CAI anyone?

faster like spools faster, or faster to build?

Haha, good question. I mean the car is faster. The build time is about the same for everything- even the cold air intake.

The turkey is also almost eliminated, and the "woosh" lasts for a really short time.

Neato, CF intakes for cheaper than you can get an aluminum one. If I didn't already have an intake I would snatch one of these up. Good work man.

The pipes are made out of carbon fiber (not fiberglass- its too weak). They stay much cooler after a hard run than the aluminum or steel pipes- they don't absorb heat very much. Its basically a fabric coated in glue, and fabric doesn't transmit heat well (which is good in this situation!)
If this is true, how come I've never seen CF used in other applications (hard pipes, FMIC, etc.)?

Can you take some more close ups please? Particularly, the CF outside of the car. I want to see how the pipes look from the inside.
And do you plan on offering a GB price? I'm just trying to decide whether to get yours or wait for Corksport to release their CAI.

I am doing a "quasi" GB right now- instead of doing a GB where you have to wait for the other people to sign up and pay, its just a sale until the end of April. They won't go on sale again except for future GB's, where they will be this price.

I am not at home right now, and won't be for the rest of the day, but I will definitely take some close ups for you and post them up here for you. I'm assuming you want pics of the SRI.

And, in response to your question about why its cheap and you haven't seen it anywhere before- its because they are very time consuming to make. But, since I'm just a college kid with nothing else to do, I don't mind charging less for my time. There are a couple other companies that make intakes and such out of carbon fiber, but they are quite pricey. But, they also do have state of the art equipment to make them with. I would say "You get what you pay for", but in my case, you are getting more than what you pay for! (But still not the $500 plus stuff you would find with the people who have the $250,000 manufacturing equipment)

Also, I haven't done testing on hardpipes yet- still not sure if it can take the heat or turbocharged, pre-intercooler air. But, thats soon!

Actually carbonio has been making a carbon intake system for the VW crowd for awhile now. Check out their homepage for some info as to why carbon fiber is a great material (http://www.carboniointakes.com/design.php)

Also Check out this link http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1639777 . It's a comparison between the major intake companies (AEM, Injen, Cabonio, etc).

For the hardpipes, I believe that just the top pipe is enough.

Also I want to thank Riles for taken the time to do this project. The intake looks great.

is there a list anywhere so we can see an estimate of how long it will be until our intake will be ready?

The first crowd (anybody who orders between friday 3/8 and sunday 3/10) will have their intakes shipped hopefully by the next Monday (3/18). I am counting on 3 different suppliers to get their parts in to me, so it could be pushed back 1-3 days depending on their shipping status.

But, I will be using any profits to carry extra inventory, so any orders after that date will hopefully be a much shorter timeframe, except for colored kevlar- those will always be an extra 3-5 days, since I can't carry all the colors yet.

So, in short, expect the the intakes about 1 and a half to 2 weeks after the order is placed for the first few, and then shorter time frames after that.

I just wanted to thank you for referencing Carbonio. I have been researching their outfit for a while, and plan to hopefully exceed their quality one day after I get out of college (A tough chore, because they do a great job). They have a great outfit and produce great products, and have been an inspiration to me for a short while.

Also, thanks for the complement! I try hard! ;)

Riles,
Im sorry if this has been covered, but if i get the SRI, will i have fitment issues with an aftermarket intercooler? I have ordered the Hiboost, specifically.

Thanks a lot, and if there isnt an issue, it's on ..

That's tough for me to answer, because I don't have any experience with the HiBoost, or any other FMIC for that matter. But, I would imagine that since the FMIC pipes don't interfere with the area I use for the pipe/filter, it would not be a problem at all. I believe that the hot pipe (pre-IC) wouldn't come close to anything in the intake area, and the cold pipe (post-IC) pipe shouldn't be a problem as long as it doesn't have any crazy bends, which I doubt it would since that doesn't make sense in horsepower terms.

But, worse comes to worst, if it doesn't work out, you are more than welcome to return it for a full refund! (and that goes for all members).

On a completely off-topic, side note- does anybody know of any dynos in the Chicago area? I'll throw this bad boy on there for some numbers to push those "borderline" people over the edge- I just know that this SRI is fast!

sweet, I'm down...

I didnt think there would be any fitment issues, but just wanted to see if anyone knew for sure. I know the IC-TB pipe is pretty much a straight shot, so I should be fine.

Riles, guessing youre at Perdue?

Do a search in the IL section i think we've talked about dynos before.

I could be wrong... VERY wrong.

Haha, no, your right. I'm gold and blue, through and through (ND). And watch with the Purdue stuff- some bad ex-girlfriend issues going on there, hehe ;)

But, and dynos in the Indiana area are worth the trip- I know this thing is full of power!

I could do a search, but its 4 am! What are we doing up now anyway?!

Haha, I like the way you think, yesiownaskyline. You are the only one with a real reason (aside from loving mspro forums) for being up so late! But, if you were to buy an intake, I might have to charge you extra for shipping (wink) !
