Carbon Fiber SRI/CAI anyone?

Oh, and p.s. - it still may be difficult to get a hold of me through the message board, because I'm busy moving out after the end of the semester. PMing is really the best way to go because it sends me an email confirmation, and thats all I'm able to check when it gets real crazy.

Sorry guys that I have been so hard to get a hold of- I was taking finals. The intake is designed to be used with the stock longer bpv hose, because I know that the vacuum source line isnt long enough to use the short hose. I didnt mean for my pics to be the ones that the installs are based off of, because I broke my bpv before.

The long rubber hose is supposed to bend 180 degrees from the BPV outlet to connect to the nipple. Its supposed to kink a little bit, but it isnt supposed to restrict airflow at all. There are two possible reasons for this- 1. I installed the BPV recirc nipple too low (or high) on the SRI. This is entirely possible because each nipple is placed by hand, and I could have made a mistake. 2. The hose I sent is for some reason not as high of a quality as it is supposed to be, causing it to either not bend enough or kink too easily.

I think the best thing to do is for me to send you another SRI, with my actual BPV hose (don't worry, it will work with the longer hose on the stock IC pipe). PM me with your adress again, since I don't have your mazda forums name tied with your adress.

If it turns out that the nipple is in the wrong location, then I will also send a corrected SRI to the others who purchased an SRI at the same time, since I usually make them in batches.

The last thing I want is for anybody to be unhappy. I understand that I am still new in this business, and hope that you guys will work with me and accept my sincerest apologies while I work out the bugs. I just want everybody to have cool intakes/pipes!

Slug420 - I notice now that your description mentions that you're from connecticut- I was thinking of going there to visit my brother in a week, maybe I could come and bring you a new SRI and help with the install?

Well I have to drive the car tomorrow morning and that stock intake pipe was a bastard to get off so i dont know WTF im gonna do now.

awesome.

Alrighty guys, sorry that I have been impossible to get to this week- its like the worst week of my life, thanks to Notre Dame's idea of a tough final. Here is a pic of what the BPV install should look like. I realize that I probably messed up a few intakes as far as nipple placement is concerned, and have already started making replacements for everybody that I think was affected. Those people will be PM'ed in a few days and everything will be taken care of.

An important tip- the BPV hose will fool you. If it seems like it won't bend, or like it is touching things, you actually need to trim like an inch off of it. This lets it bend easier and picks it up off of anything it touches.

I appreciate everybody's patience in this matter- it wouldn't be a new business if there weren't any bugs to work out, right?

** Warning: its a big pic, so 56K, sorry! I wanted everybody to be able to zoom in and whatnot.

What is so hard about the stock intake pipe? (huh)

Well, I have bad news everybody. I have to stop selling these. I have lost over $600 already, and my charity has gone unnoticed. I am getting flames every day for not working fast enough, not doing enough of one thing or another thing, etc.

Nobody understands that I am just doing this as a favor to the msprotege community. Here is proof:

Introductory Cost of SRI: $150

Cost of CF Fabric for SRI: $35 (because I use more expensive, thicker sleeves)
Cost of epoxy per SRI: $10
Cost of couplers, including shipping from manufacturer: $15-25 depending on model
Cost of Filters: $45
Cost of Clamps: $10
Cost of the little stuff (connectors, hoses, etc): $10
Cost of shipping: $8

So, total cost of SRI: $133 The amount I charge, including shipping: $157
I was making 24 dollars on every SRI. But wait, it gets better

Amount of time required to make EACH SRI= over 4 hours
Amount of time spent dealing with crappy suppliers= about a half hour per intake
Amount of time to test fit each SRI= 1/2 hour
Amount of time to go to stores to buy extras (clamps, hoses, etc)= 1 hour

Approximate amount of time spent on each intake= 6 hours.

Thats $4 per hour I can do better at the local burger joint mopping up floors.

And then, people still have the nerve to go off on me in emails and pms. I know this post is unprofessional, but I won't go as far as to name who.

All I asked was that the members go easy on me and work with me since I was doing them such a favor. Instead, I get pms every single day the intakes are late. I'm working as fast as I can.

I'll admit it- I made a mistake . I bit off more than I could chew. I was just so excited that I made these with my bare hands.

So, in closing, I am not a business, just a member trying to pick up a few extra bucks to go out to dinner and see movies while at college. But I don't need this added stress for this little amount of money.

I'm done making carbon fiber.

To all current customers, I still have plenty of materials in stock, and I will still stand behind my product. If ANYTHING goes wrong, I am still more than willing to repair/replace it, or offer a full refund. But please understand that it will take time.

I will sell whatever intakes I have left in the for sale section at rediculously low prices in a little while. I also have a bunch of K&N filters, and plenty of silicon turbo couplers in 2.5" and 3". I will put up a big for sale post- I just want to lose less money- I'm not trying to profit on my inventory.

I'm sorry to hear about this Riles. You were doing a great thing for the msprotege community, and I hope you the very best in your future plans.

Thanks man. No hard feelings- I just found out the ups and downs of business ownership the hard way. Now, lets all go have a beer! (cheers)

Education is an asset...The time you put into it now is far more important than satisfying others at this point.

(cheers)

another one bites the dust

Thanks for trying to help everyone out. I'm guessing this means you won't be making any for the p5 :(

Let me know if you ever start up again, though!

I really do commend you for your efforts, Riles. The current intake options for the MSP just don't cut it. Yours are hand made out of better material and cheaper; I would think people would be more appreciative and patient. Another week or two and I would have made up my mind up. Anyways, I'll be on the lookout for the discounted leftovers. :D

damn this sux man. I had a few commitment to take care of and I was going to get one. Thanks for the effort but I guess we have a quite a few whiners on the board that want the best without paying for it. It's people like these that keep the top japanese tuners out of the states....

Really, Riles the intake I recieved form you was amazing. I couldn't have asked for anything better. A friend and I installed my SRI instructionless in under an hour. Its just too bad that things didn't work out for you, I had people with other cars if I could get one of your SRI's for them. Maybe you could sell off your molds and whatnot to someone who wants to continue your work? Offset your cost that little bit more? Anyways, your SRI was and still amazing in my eyes, not sure I could drive my car anymore without the unique sound I get from your SRI. Thanks again

A crying shame. It seems that people are unwilling to WORK with anyone nowadays. No one has patience and expect things now now now. That is why we have lost so many people who are doing things as a favor to the community. When they do they get a slap in the face and those same people start complaining that no one is doing anything for us. (poke) uhhhhhhhhh, they were and you bitched them out because your order arrived 5 minutes late.

Riles, thank you for starting such a project and for giving us the opportunity to get such a product (first)

Hey man why dont you email me, and we can work something out, you send me the molds, all have them made and I will give you 50 dollars a intake. Becuase it is your design. I know I could do it myself but i dont want to. I will pay for the material through the people I know, and pay for all the extra stuff. We can sell them for a little more.I dont care about making a profit, all i care about is breaking even. I just want to help the community out some. And if it takes throwing some money out that I am not using right now to get these things going and out to everyone , then I will do that. Email me here at thegeek@thegeekery.biz , I dont want this project to stop.

Thanks
