Caravaning "guidelines"?

I don't want to b**** and moan about this, but I am and I will...so, um, too bad.....you may not agree with this, but I just wanted to get this out.

I wanted to lay down some rules-of-thumb for caravaning. I'm not sure how much caravaning any of you have done (that would be more than two cars, yo...), but there needs to be some common sense used during the drive to Utica, and back, and while at the meet. We will be driving in an attention getting group. Therefore, we need to be mature about this. Personally, I wasn't a big fan of the way the Hooter's to Schaumburg haul up I-355 went last August - speeding is one thing, but I saw some people just flying and cutting off other cars (with like kids and s*** in them) for no good reason. Yes, you may have a fast car. Yes, you may be a "good" driver. But don't be an ass.

Some guidelines (please add to as you wish - legit points only, no b/s...seriously):
1) No excessive ******* speeding, passing one another per your Fast and Furious, wet dream, or generally driving like an ass. I also don't know how much driving on I-80 any of you have done, but there are speed traps galore and the run from Joliet to the Mississippi is very tempting to open it up. There's a lot of traffic on I-80, especially if the weather is decent that day. Be mindful.

If you've ever seen other caravans (esp. vintage cars), they don't speed like maniacs (even though many have 300+ HP on tap and can probably dominate many a street car). It's all about potential, not the fact that you know how to use your right foot (we assume that you do).

2) Per that, stay at or under the speed limit. This is a caravan cruise, not how much boost you can get at WOT.
3) Stay in the right lane unless you are in the lead and feel that the line behind you is able to change lanes in unison.
4) Per #3, signal all lane changes.
5) If someone does get pulled over, then EVERYONE should pull over. I know this is risky and not necessarily possible, but it will also allow the occiffer to understand that we are not a bunch of Honduh Sivik driving morons and that we are mature enough to understand why they're pulling whomever over (if this happens).

Personally, I'm making concessions for making this meet. Other's are as well (taking off work, postponing other responsibilities, driving many miles, etc). Let's be mature and treat this meet as such. I'm not saying don't have fun, but the high school s*** en route is over. I think everyone on here has a good idea of what's stupid and how to avoid it - we have a good group here and I don't expect anything assinine. However, I've been to (non Protege) meets where someone decided to do something extremely immature (like a burnout and speeding thru. a county forest preserve thinking that no cops were around) and cause the 50+ cars and owners that showed to be forced away. If all goes well, this will be a very large meet and I think it would be in everyone's best interest to act accordingly.

I personally have no issues with turning back mid-way through the drive or leaving early if someone decides to bring 9th grade with them (jerkit) ....hopefully, none of this should apply to anyone.

5) If someone does get pulled over, then EVERYONE should pull over.
(2thumbs) not like SOMEpeople who run in the face of danger! sorry couldnt resist.

i agree with your terms.

very well put. i completely agree. if everyone uses their brain, we should be fine, but you never know. however, i dont think we should have any problems because i think we have a level-headed group whom know not to act like a damn fool.

i have taken a day off for this and i will be pissed if it turns out to be a disaster. i want everyone to have a great time.

yeah nicely said dimitrios....but u didnt say anything about playin pass the rubber chicken on the hyway.....jk ..i also requested to work early if at all that day...so it should be fun just like all the rest.....

jose just agrees cuz his car is slow. yea.

anywho, i agree. someone will have to tie ken down cuz he doesnt know what a ****** speed limit is.

I totally agree. Once I had to follow my friend Kurt on a road trip, and he was the one who knew where we were going. No matter how many times I called his cell and told him to grow up and slow down, he kept doing like 110mph and weaving in traffic, just because he "has a radar detector."
Pissed me off to no end.

well as long as everyone makes it there safe is the only thing that counts..the gurnee caravan better make sure jose gets there cause mand and him have to see who can eat the most...and i think i will dominate

Very good points. I've never done any caravaning before. So I will just follow you guys. Heehee... Can't wait..... (cool)

I don't have aim. I have MSN Messenger.
I live in south side, just 5 minutes off I-80/I-294. I will take I-80 all the way west to StarveRock. I am not sure how many of you live down south (around I-80/I-94/I-294 area). If most of you take I-55, maybe I can meet you at the intersection of I-55 and I-80.

Where at? South Holland (sounds like)...?

I'm pushing to get everyone on the "south side" to meet up at the Holiday Inn in Tinley Park. It's on the southeast corner of 183rd St. and Harlem Avenue.

If you live near South Holland, then I live near you :D...

I know that Holiday Inn, yeah, I can meet up there first. Just not sure people from I-55 area are gonna go there, cause it's easy for them to take I-55 all the way down to I-80.

i am a firm believer that the north and south caravans should meet and continue on together. maybe someone knows a spot where the 2 routes intersect, or like an oasis we could all meet at.

it would own

well, then I may need to amend or change the "rules"...they were guilelines to begin with...

I'm just thinking that that "right lane only" thing might a little difficult....

how's about: let's just TRY to stay together as much as possible. Just be careful when making a "mass lane change".....

Denny's in Bolingbrook...:
Denny's
126 N Frontage Rd
Bolingbrook IL 60440
(630) 739-4045

I'd have to go north just to south again. How's about we meet up again in Joliet? I'd rather do that? I'll find a spot there again.

Mass lane changes usually work best when the person in the front changes lanes and then slightly slows down and lets everyone else get in front.. or someone from the back does the first lane change and lets everyone in, but 2-ways are needed for that kind of coordination.

This is a good list, I am going to *steal* it for the TX meet.
