It is possible to have codes stored in the ECU without the check engine light being on. It only takes a couple of minutes to scan it, might as well try it and see if it gives you any help.
Well obviously something didn't get done right or you wouldn't be posting. It sounds like you're not building up enough compression to get over 2500 rpm - have you done a compression check?
did you do it yourself? If so, I agree with slavrenz...if a shop did it, take it back and make them fix it.
check engine lights?
other issues going on?
vac leaks?
timing off?
turbo non turbo..?
there are alot of factors that need to be established before a diagnosis can be properly made.... first chec compression as stated above....
check engine lights can indicate some things... however... if your car is turbo'd for example... and some how your maps from your ecu got messed up... that would be another.. to much fuel or not enough would cause that... soo with all that being said.. how bout some details about your car...
is it completely stock?
what mods if any....
did you do the work or some one else
was the engine put at TDC when the head gasket was changed...?
was the head milled down and flattened out before putting it back on?
what was the reason to change the head gasket?
As racerx43269 said, check your timing marks. That is my first guess. Well, make sure things like the coil packs and all sensors are properly hooked up and there are no obvious leaks anywhere, then check the timing.
OMG bingooooooooooooo(rockon)
No, I did not change it for no reason. There was white smoke coming out of the exhaust on a cold start, and would smoke a little while driving.
sounds like a trigger issue. check your crank position sensor plug. its the three wire grey plug right in between the power steering pump and valve cover. MAKE SURE each wire is making connection. you can either use an ohm meter or oscilliscope (might want to have a mechanic do it). i say this from experience so it may work for you too. i was chasing my tail when it happened to me because i even respliced the connector and thought it HAD to be something else. it ended up being a bad mate between the male and female connectors. good luck.
They're easy to be found and they run in little highschoolish cliques. They usually have thousands of posts about nothing and they like to snitch like little girls.Just act like they don't exist and take the advice from the real ones.
No, actually, this is a pretty mature group here with good advice. We don't tolerate foolish or immature behaviour. We don't have to.
If you don't like it here ('too strict') then go somewhere else. I am sure there are plenty of other sites. Me? I like it here. Less crap than most and this site has been very useful to me over the (eight?) years of my P5 ownership.
My $.02 worth.
Tick tick tick tick tick...
thanks to all that tried to help me but i found out was wrong with my mp5 my cams were reversed i took it back apart and put it back together the right way n it started right upStep one: Did you look at the oil to see if it is milky or not? depending on how bad the HG was out on it, you could have washed out the lower bearings.
Step two: compression check it!! if your compression is off the deep end your timming is not right
Step three: check ignition with timing light to see if your crank position sensor is right.
step four: if the first three steps pass..... your screwed and take it to a shop or rip it apart again

Wow, I'm amazed the engine even worked![]()
I am glad you found it.
