hello all, nice to meet you.

I am in Ireland and I've bought a 99 323, known as a Protege to you guys I think.

The 'TCS off' and ABS light are stuck on, on the dashboard. I reckon its a wheel sensor, and I'd like the car to tell me which wheel it is.

However, try as I might, I cannot get the ABS light to flash. Have you guys heard of this happening before, any ideas what the problem might be?

I've read that I can measure the ohm resistance of the sensors to determine if they are okay, and I have a multi-meter, however I've never done that before and would like to try get the diagnostics going, before I attempt that.

So yeah, I've grounded the correct pin in the diagnostics terminal and nothing is happening with the asb light.

I had a look at the ABS fuse too, but that seems fine.

regards, thanks for reading.

Have you tried plugging in a scanner into the OBD 2 port to read the exact code? I have a Scanguage 2 in my Mazda3. If there is a check engine light illuminated in my daughter's 02 Protg, I unplug the Scangauge and use a spare cable to ready her error code.

I believe that before OBD 2 was introduced, OBD 1 codes were determined by flashing dash lights. Your car should have OBD 2 circuitry, so a scanner is needed to read the code.

If you can't get the CEL (check engine light) to flash the OBD codes, your best off just picking up a OBD-II code reader. In the USA ( where I'm located ), you can get a cheap one for $15 USD online (eBay, Amazon, etc.) or most auto parts stores will have one for around $50 USD.

This will most likely give you a "P" code (like "P0034” which you can then look up on the internet or some of the nicer OBD scanners will tell you the codes meaning right on their screen.

Sadly, I don't know if anything changes due to the car being an Irish spec as sometimes specific regions have specific requirements.

Any car manufacturer editors after 1996 will have an obdll port, u can get a cheap Bluetooth odb/elm27 Reader on eBay or Amazon for as little as $5usd, then connect it to ur Android or iPhone and read the code, I use an app called torque, works great and will give u the code and troubleshooting options on the code itself, I have a protg 5, and it works great, but, abs, tcs, and airbag codes sometimes need a special sensor, since they're directly responsible for safety features on the vehicle, so I would check with ur local auto parts store first
