The thing about that reasoning is that sure enough, the MSP's can run that type of boost, but they don't have to increas the fuel pressure as much due to a programmed ECU that modifies injector Pulsese (open and close times). With the added pressure you have to push to compensate for the lack of programming in the stock ECU, your pump could very well be overtaxed at higher pressures. I remember that my stock fuel pump would provide about 80 PSI (used for 6.5 PSI on the FP kit) of fuel, and and then the needle would wobble and fluctuate violently. After I got my in-line pump, I shot to 100 PSI no problem (too much), and the needle was steady. Regardless of the problem, you need a fuel pressure gauge! This is not an option since you don't have a reliable wideband!!Matthew said:i can understand your reasoning...but if mike can run ELEVEN psi on the stock pump, 5-6psi should be a piece of cake for the fuel pump - even a weak one.
so far the suggestions are:
bad fuel pump
bad fmu
worthless guage
bad wiring
bad vacuum lines
anything that couldnt be wrong?
No, what you would do is make a line long enough to run up to the outside of your front windshield to tape it there so you can see the gauge. I still have my mechanical guage like this, but tucked under the hood out of the way.Matthew said:but how to check a mechanical one while in the cab...you would have to run it into the cab or whatever.
Thanks! Headunit is down where the ash tray and lighter were. . .still haven't finished it to my "satisfaction yet".mypfizzle said:bevis.. that is the pimpest thing i have ever seen.. where is ur headunit at?
Thanks again, and 1FASTMP5 is right! Who needs a radio. . .you've heard the sound clip in the signature, what music could beat that!1FASTMP5 said:that set up is PIMP ASS HELL bevis! ^ LOL who needs a radio when you got all those gauges to look after.![]()
See I knew you weren't stupid!DooMer_MP3 said:Well, this whole thread was a very informative read. It seems like its been narrowed down to fuel pump. This is a great example of why I'm buying my necessary guages/monitoring equipment BEFORE I even touch a turbo kit...
1) J&S Safeguard
2) Wideband
3) Fuel Pressure gauge
4) Boost guage
This way I can diagnose and give people information to aid them in helping me out. Good luck Matthew. I'm sure it sucks, but you'll be happy when everything is working right.
Little Beavis, I'll have to talk to you about maybe making a single DIN-sized plate for 2 guages and a WB02 monitor with a slick MP3 logo. Unless you're a beyotch and want to keep it for yourself.

That's the exact fuel pressure gauge I use inside the cabin of my car now. I am more than happy with it.Captain KRM P5 said:http://nordskogperformance.com/m8034.html
digital fuel pressure gauge, 2 1/16 inch sized that goes up to 100 psi. that's what I use and it works great. Plus the red backlit display on black looks badass in the middle of the night. like numbers just hovering out there
i sell the gauge and the sending unit for $125 plus shipping. a mechanical gauge works just as well, this is just for those who are leery of running fuel line anywhere away from the engine bay.
Is your brake booster line tapped to the left of the valve or to the right? If it's to the right of the valve (which prevents boost from passing through), then your FMU isn't going to see any boost.Matthew said:so the brake booster line is tapped AFTER that little bullet thing....
The pump is wise investment anyways.Matthew said:i guess ill be SOL if i get this pump with no luck still...
btw where has everyone bought steel braided fuel line? i cant find any in this bad ass town.
smart move... I had my wideband, oil pressure, EGT, fuel pressure, and boost gauge installed b4 the turbo install.. definitly lets you see any problems you may have.DooMer_MP3 said:Well, this whole thread was a very informative read. ken i may buy that from you on the 15th if im still having problems after the fuel pump..i paypaled you the money but im hoping the walbro doesnt need any modification to work.Captain KRM P5 said:http://nordskogperformance.com/m8034.html

im going to pop off the top of it tonight and see if its the discs.ghostP5 said:I have been helping Matt with this install for almost 2 weeks and all that hes done is correct. There is no reason that he should be running lean on only 5psi of boost, the stock P5 timing and the FMU he should be rich as hell. I think that FMU is shot, and he needs another one.
