Canadian EGR valve exposed

Here are some 5% discount codes I found for rockauto.com:

21973211838583 - expires 11/8/09
22061911846803 - expires 11/8/09
MM12309 - expires 12/30/09

Enter code into the "How did you hear about us?" box. I used the first code to order the Canadian EGR.

I have a 2003 protege 5 and I am in Canada and since the canadian egr has a 7 year warranty is it possible for me to have the egr replaced even though I dont have a check engine light on? I cleaned out the egr a year ago and havent had a problem with it since and I want to know if I can get it changed because I dont want to have the egr die on me when the car it older than 7 years and then I have to pay $200 for this egr valve when I could have got it for free.

Thanks in advance

If CEL is Not On then why would they offer you a free GR Valve? Especially if you tell them that it has been removed and cleaned.

My EGR valve showed sign of failure last summer, I disconnected it while it was "open" i think, since then no stalling, everything is fine. It's like disabled!

No more troubles, same thing with ABS...

subbin to this....just bought the canadian version. Hopefully this helps my bad idle. Tired of cleaning my EGR.

Question for TheMan

In May of 2009 i had CEL light On solid and P0401 code.
EGR valve on my 2001 ES was stuck and cleaning it was a waste of time. So i replaced it with a brand new Canadian EGR valve. Problem was solved. At least for 10 months.. Out of ffff nowhere i felt that my car was about to die (once at slow speed, and another time at 80km/h). The CEL blinked for few seconds then went into Solid On state. I've checked the code:
=======================
P0300
Random Misfire Detected
FREEZE FRAME DATA
Fuel Sys 1 CL
Fuel Sys 2 CL-Fault
Calc Load(%) 63.92
ECT(F) 185
STFT B1(%) 18.75
=======================
Of cource i am doing my research. Spark plugs - OK, wires, coils resistance within spec. No air leaks, MAF sensor looks like new, Throttle body is free of carbon. Today CEL went off.. 1 drove approx 100km - no problem and no CEL, but i feel :) that something is not right.. Engine runs not as smooth as it used to run, especialy at stop. Any ideas?

Yea, one more thing - i removed P0300 code twice and it came back twice with same data as shown above.

WTF?

Is this EGR that rockauto's selling MAZDA OEM parts?? If not, anyone can refer me to a Canadian dealership that can order and SHIP to USA???

\

Rock Auto now sells the Canadian EGR valve for those who have trouble getting it... downside is only 90 days/3000 miles warranty (instead of 12 months unlimited mileage from Mazda Canada)

I'll say it again... FORGET cleaning your original EGR valve.... too much effort and time involved and it will fail again! FORGET replacing it with a USDM one... it will fail also! Just throw this Canadian s*** on and stop worrying about the EGR again!

just got my Revised EGR From Rockauto. And i think the one they sell is the SAME one as OEM mazda in Canada. Cause they look exactly the same, and this rockauto one also has the mitsu logo.

Anyway, can anyone show me in pic, where those 2 hose connect to?? I know the long one is to vent, but where do i connect the other 2?? one to IAC, and one to coolant source. where's these 2 connection???

UNPLUG it!!

2 years driving with my EGR unplugged, no more hassles.

Any temp, or climat, everything runs fine.

and here's the pics of the valve installed

the parts got colored so that you can tell where they are installed... "green" hose goes all the way to the top of the throttle body (IAC)... "light blue" hose goes to the coolant return pipe... the gay "purple" hose is the vent hose that runs all the way to the fuse box

and just to think the story ends here... I put everything back together, and the car started up fine... but after reving it a few times, the car ran like s***! WTF... I spent 30 mins checking for leaks and only found the cold pipe to the intercooler was leaking a tiny bit... I tightened the clamps more and fixed that, but it was still running bad.... I finally said **** it and took the plugs out and found #3 was fouled up.. I cleaned it and the engine ran great after that.... must be the induction cleaning I was doing right before I took the car apart that did that... either way I was pretty mad after spending all day messing with this that the car ran like this!!

Edwin, do you have pictures of where the 2 coolant lines route to from the egr? i am not finding good pictures of this. thanks!

FSY1-18-W00 Canadian EGR Valve for Sale
It was installed on my 2001-ES for less than a year.
It is in ABSOLUTELY PERFECT condition, so PLEASE do NOT ask me if anything wrong with it, because NOTHING is wrong with this valve. This EGR Valve will be shipped with:
- all three new hoses
- new TB gasket
- several new tie-wraps
- two clamps
- one used EGR valve gasket (nothing wrong with using it, or you can re-use your original gasket, or purchase a new one for under $10.00).
Paid $168.66 for it. Selling for $100.00 CDN plus whatever shipping you select.

I just installed the "canadian" EGR from Rock Auto a few weeks ago. I found that I didn't need to remove the mentioned engine mount and didn't need to drain the coolant. It was was a very simple and easy process, but it does require a steady hand to line up the new unit, gasket, and bolts when working "blind" behind the engine, trying to line things up. I got it after a few tries.

I also took care of the additional coolant hoses by observing the images on the first page of this thread. That seemed to help, but I also had to refer to the diagrams on the recall sheet that I printed out, just to be sure.

I only spilled a few drops of coolant when I removed the old lines and quickly placed the new lines. It saved me a step.

I also just passed emissions, despite driving on a very faulty EGR for at least six months. I have a spare cat on hand now that I got for $100. Heh.

Anyway, just wanted to share.

Does anybody have a copy of the instructions or know where to get them? The images posted by theman are helpful, but full instructions would be appreciated.
