Canadian cost advice, please

As soon as I got my P5 ( leased) they introduced the 0% financing...and thten I heard that the P5 wasn't going to be made anymore so I really wanted to switch to financing. I had only had the car for 2 wks. They wouldn't let me switch to financing. I'm paying 5.2% on my lease payments. Geez, when you sign something it's written in stone!

what sucks for us up here in canada is that the imports don't often get the 0% whereas in the states alot of imports have 0% opportunities. we were about to get the vibe, cause it was the same as the matrix, but the dealer wouldn't go down 300 more dollars, so i said screw it. i'll look at what diff options the matrix has. even being the same car it does in fact have a few slightly diff options and i liked it.. the only thing was.. the matrix didn't have 0%.. and it's the same dang car!!!!!!

oh well, aside from the small HP, i like the MP5 better anyway! so it all worked out.

you traded in a '02 rsx? what was wrong with it?

i bought the rsx back in 02 sept.. for a car goin to skool.... and i paid for the insurance......

and when i asked for a quote for the rsx being insurance this yr... they said it'd cost about 4300.....

The quote for the Protege5 was only 2700... like 1600 cheaper...

The drove the RSx for about 4 months.... 1200 km....
i had like a type r wing... fogs... full diamond coat.... i bought pedals.. and i STILL have the Cusco Rear Strut Bar

$4300? holy cow! even if it's without discount that's still a lot.

hurrah for the p5 being a wagon. insurance costs are waaay lower..... not to mention it ain't a civic/integra/rsx..... super $$$ insurance.

I think you will find that the price between the dealers will not be very different but what makes it for me is the service and support after. We got ours from Auto World but now I get all of my stuff done at Jarman. Plus they are our club sponsor :)

Well, it's an Edmonton post.. and I think skyhawk brought up a very important point.. so I gotta chime in here :)..

When I bought my car, I did all the research on prices.. called up Jarman (they were recommended to me by a friend) and said 'I'm buying a car and I don't want to play games'..

They gave me a price.. and walked me through where each dollar went... other then a couple minor accessories I didn't bother haggling at all..

I think they made about 500 dollars off my purchase ('out the door', I paid 23.6k+gst for a '02 auto, a/c, moonroof, and a few accessories..last summer)..

And it was worth every penny.. They did all the leg work for me.. tracked down the car, brought it into the dealership, registered it for me, put on the plates, gave me the serial number for my insurance company.. all before I had even set foot in the dealership.. I went in, signed the final paper work and drove my car off the lot.. 3 days after I first called them... And the quality of service I've got there has only improved since the day I picked up my car!

My grandfather (mechanic) told me to find a dealership, treat them with respect, and stay with them for life.. that a bad dealership can make having a great car a miserable experience. And that shopping for a dealership is as important, if not more, than the car itself.

The point to my long winded story is this.. you're talking about spending 25 grand!.. what difference is a few hundred dollars seriously going to make?.. I think it's money WELL spent to establish a good no hassle, no bs relationship with a dealership that will you think will give you good service for the entire life of your car, not just kiss your butt until you drive it off the lot.

well there you go...
at one time i was at +15%..but now back to 40%.. imagine my relief..

I used a Toronto based agency to help me with the price. You can figure a MP5 2003 is worth 18,000 base. The MSRP is 21,800. You can negoitate the price on options as well. Eg. leather, auto, A/C etc.

I paid 22,400 fully loaded (leather) tax, freight, PDI etc.

end of the year.. inventory clear outs.. new model.. price drop now...

i'm in vancouver.

i did the carcost canada thing... the dealer invoice cost for a 2003 midnight blue with auto/moonroof/air (has the sportshift thang)
came to 22,842. before taxes.. including freight and air tax

after the dang CDN gov taxes and the dealer (admin fee - 125) it came to 27 524 (1801 - gst, 1681 - pst)

i should have shopped around... prolly could have gotten better than the 800 mark up. but couldn't be bothered with the hassle of finding a new dealer etc.. etc.

Interesting, I've got a quote in with them (CCC) now, looking for a Midnight-blue 2003 with air and moonroof...Invoice comes in at 21,629. Probably won't get much more than $800 above that, given MSRP is $1600 above invoice...dealers gotta make their coin too...

Still waiting for my official quotes though...ARG!! I want my car now!!!

Cheers,
John

just a word of advice..

i paid 800 over cost.. but from talking to some other guys you can def get better than that. perhaps wolf mazda (in richmond i think) one guy said he paid 1000 under cost.. but then again.. who knows right.. depends on how much they want to get rid of the car.. and how much CCC is making from the dealers.. i talked to a more local dealer and he said he could give me a better deal... but at what cost... extra fees elsewhere so it would add up to the same if not more?

i sometimes wonder now if i could have gotten better

but whatever.. i didn't get robbed on the deal.. just being stingy i suppose.

bottom line.. i don't know what the bottom line is LOL.

whatever works for you.. good luck!
