Can we get a breakdown of who owns who??

No, no, no, no, no...Porsche is NOT owned by VW.

They have engineering agreements from time to time but Porsche is their own company: Owned by no-other car company, owning no other car company.

It would take a while to post all of the companies and their subsidi...(damn spelling), other companies. There is a site I used to have bookmarked that was pretty comprehensive but I accidently erased bookmarks in a Firefox mishap. I'll give one as I remember it (except for weird China partnerships).

VW AG
-Audi, Bugatti, Seat, Skoda, Bentley, VW. The owned Rolls for a minute but BMW has them now. I think that is it.

I believe Porsche is owned by VW.
Pretty Sure.

Fiat:
Alfa Romeo
Fiat
Lancia
Ferrati
Maserati
Ducati
Gilera
Piaggio

Porsche not VW:

"What is the relationship between Audi and Porsche, and if there is none, why
are so many dealerships Porsche-Audi?

Porsche is a separate company and is not related to VW or Audi in terms
of organization. However, Porsche's relationship with VW and Audi runs
deep over the course of these companies' history.

Ferdinand Porsche, as you may know, was responsible for designing the
original VW beetle. The Porsche 356 and later 911s were all derivatives
of the beetle. VW's chairman today, Ferdinand Piech, is F. Porsche's
grandson. Piech was the force behind the Porsche 907 and 917 race cars,
and was the engineering head at Audi in the 70s and responsible for
bringing the quattro concept to reality. Piech eventually became chairman
of Audi in the 80s, and moved on to become chairman of VW AG.

Porsche, VW and Audi all share technology and parts bin. Porsche uses
the same part numbering system as VAG. The Porsche 914 was originally
designed to be VW sports car, but the plan was changed last minute.
The Porsche 924/944 cars were built by Audi for Porsche, using lots
of parts from the VAG parts bin. Porsche and Audi even share racing
drivers (Hans Stuck and Hurley Haywood comes to mind). And did anyone
notice that the new Boxsters have the Audi climate control system?

The Porsche+Audi association in the U.S. as far as dealerships are
concerned started in the 70s when VW, Audi and Porsche cars were all
imported by VW of America, and VWoA saw fit to sell Porsche and Audi
in the same dealerships. Porsche eventually established a separate
import agency in the US (Porsche Cars of America) but many Porsche+Audi
dealerships maintained the same lineups."

(google) "porsche VW relationship." Many different references, some incorrect, but Porsche does not belong to VW.

Thanks guys.

Sorry I tought that for the longest time.

Take care,

Federico

Found it. Automobile magazine, August 2005. It's slightly outdated, since DaimlerChrysler doesn't own any of Mitsubishi now.

That's exactly the magazine I was just trying to find, I must have thrown it out. There are a few unexpected twists in that, at least for me there were.

And GM sold its share of Fuji Heavy Industries to Toyota.

It's more then a partnership, GM owns 21% of Fuji Heavy Industries

You can also add Lamborghini under the VW/Audi/Bentley/Bugatti group.

Daimler Chrylser group sold their stake of Mitsubishi. They sold it to Goldman sacs. Big news because Mitsu was in financial s*** and needed more support from Daimler Chrysler..they basically said, "no." and lowered their share to like 14%...then they kicked mitsu in the nuts be selling that small percentage. They just dont want to be held back by a struggling company.

http://www.daimlerchrysler.com/dccom/0,,0-5-7145-1-560325-1-0-0-0-0-0-243-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0,00.htm

There is not such thing as a merge of equals in the business world. Diamler took over Chrysler. in the end its Diamler managment that calls the shots not chrysler. l

in this case they still have joint ventures but will not support mitusibhi in anyway. Meaning they will not bail them out if they have financial troubles.

GM sold their portion of Fuji industry to Toyota

http://paultan.org/archives/2005/10/06/gm-sells-subaru-shares-to-toyota/

So Fuji Heavy industy/ subaru is under toyota

Fuji heavy industry was sold by GM. It was purchased by Toyota...suposidly for Fuji's research in litium ion technology....meaning perfect for their hybrid cars.

And I dont see MG Rover group...now owned by Nanjing Automobile

MG Rover
- MG
- Rover

Story was that MG Rover was bought by BMW. They operated the company at a loss and decided the only car brand worth salvaging in MG Rover autogroup is Mini. So they Kept Mini and sold the rest to Ford Motor company. Ford did allt hey could to it before selling it to a Nanjing Auto

Group Lotus PLC....which was bought by [size=-1]Malaysian automaker Proton. Lotus still does alot of engienering for other companies...many companies feature their designs. Most notibally MKII MR2, GM/Opel/Vauxhall speedster, GM ZR1 vette...only one to feature DOHC, and today's Nissan R35 GTR.

Proton
- Lotus

I was going to say that Porsche is not owned by VW...they are strategic partners. But im very suprised at porsche. They are the one true sports car company that have survied. No other company who only focus on sports cars (in the mainstream) has survived. Econoboxes sell.
