Can Toyo A36s really wear this fast!?

:
2019 CX-5 Signature
Just dropped my car of for oil change at dealership. They took measurements on the tires and my front tires are at 4/32 tread. It is quite shocking because my car JUST hit 15,100 miles.

That seems like an obscenely short life! Am I crazy or should I be contacting Mazda corporate for replacement under warranty?

Yes.. this summer bought a cpo CX5
@ 17 k...

Tires had just enough tread to pass inspection...they wouldn't throw in new tires.

Ran the Toyo tires down for a few months ... just put on Nokian winters last month..dropped to 17 incher's.

... Bought Firestone Destination AT2 during fall sale to put on car in the Spring.

The Toyos don't have that great traction.

However, If you really like the Toyo, you could try hassling it out with Mazda.

Me, I'd just move on and get a good tire you like with good all season traction and better tread life. Get a tire that can save your and your families life in adverse conditions.

Do you really want another Toyo stock tire stuck on your car?

Maybe save your energy for other warranty items.

Seems like a lot of people on this forum get 17-18k.

Some people don't wait that long to get rid of them.

You didn’t say, what is the tread depth on rear tires?

My stock Toyo A23’s lasted 44,032 miles.

8/32 on the rear. After service technician checked, he determined they were 5/32 not 4/32 up front. They were rotated today.

so after the rotation today, the 8/32 are now on the front? If so, that's good because the fronts will wear faster than the rears because of the extra weight on them

You have rotated tires twice at 15,100 miles, but the tire wear is so uneven (5/32” at front and 8/42” at rear) that it looks like tires have never got rotated.

Wow. Wonder if the tread compound is different on the A23s?

Or maybe toyo switched material suppliers for later tires?

Bought a cpo at 17k and Toyo A36 tires were down to 5/32 and 6/32
( had car checked out at tire shop and mechanic before buy and tried to finagle a new set of firestones but dealer wouldn't budge...wouldn't even put on new Toyos which the dealer could of claimed under warranty as it was a lease...guess they don't want to upset Mazda supplier ? )...

Put about another 5 k on tires and wore down to about 4/32.

Don't know what they were like new but Toyo A36 at 4/32 and 5/32 had horrible traction.

Cx5 on 17 inch nokians feels safer on both dry, wet or icy roads.

And the firestones for spring have never lacked in traction on other cars. The Firestone Destination's always lasted longer and had sufficient traction even as tread depths wore down.

Of course the Toyos are only rated as 300 AA while the firestones are rated at an almost double 540 AB.

No way pay $163 a tire for toyos 300 treadwear when my Firestones have 540 treadwear for $157(after rebate).

Sounds possible. The cpo at 17 k had tires that were within 1/32 of each.

Or the OP's front tires were really pumped
up ?

Was the front tire wear mostly in center of tread?

I’ll have to inspect them a bit more. I am suspicious about the lack of rotation last year as well, so I’ll check the paperwork.

My last oil change (7,500) miles was October last year which should have included the 1st rotation. The 15,000 mile oil change was 2 days ago. I don’t drive that often, even less since COVId. Most of my driving is city as my furthest commute is usually my house to the Philly airport where the car sits in the parking garage for days at a time (which is far less often lately due to lack of flying anywhere).

I’ve kept my tire pressures at whatever the cold psi recommendation is in the sticker at all times (I think it’s 35). I don’t think I floor it and slam on the breaks, but, I have been known let loose with the turbo a bit :)

Which Firestone’s you go with?

My wife’s OEM Yokohama Geolanders on her CX9 got almost 60k on them when they were at the 3/32 mark and we replaced them with Bridgestone alenza ultras.

Firestone Destination AT2 in 235 70r16.

Almost went with Falken AT trails but they didn't make the 235 in 16 inch
and have run Firestone Destination AT 1st gen without problems.

Either one is a nice all terrain tire that's not too loud.

If you're looking for quieter all-seasons, other members may chime in for the better allseason shoes.

Was the rotation free or did you pay for it? Is it on your paperwork? You should be upset if you paid for something that wasn't done.

If the 8/32 tires are now at the front after the recent rotation, you should be fine for at least another 7500. iirc, your tires start out at 10/32
