Hi all,

I know our stock tires are Dunlop 195/50/16

I wonder will 205/50/16 fit our stock rims??
yes my winter tires are 205 50 16.
they fit perfect and give you better traction

Wouldn't a 205/45 R16 work better?
yes but you lower the load capacity of the car slightly.i like a little more meat on the rim with all these pot holes. just my opinion.

"Six of one, half dozen of the other"

The 205/50's are 1.7% too big, while the 205/45's are 1.7% too small.

195/50-16 is just a really crappy size tire to put on a new car . . . . unless a whole bunch of other manufacturers quickly start doing the same - Otherwise, there will never be much of a selection to pick from.

Right now, we've got cheap, crappy tires, and just a couple of quality, expensive tires to pick from - Nothing in between :'(

215 45 16;) i only know of two compnys that make them but they dont really fit well with the stock rims

Yes, 205/50 16's will fit the stock rims. I've checked into it and they will still clear the lower spring perch on the struts. Also, yes they are 1.7% larger than stock. However, I've been testing my odometer against mileage test mile posts and mile markers and that's about how high our stock speedos are. About 1.5-2%. So as a bonus, you're speedometer should actually be damn close to accurate as well as dropping your rpm at cruise by 50-75 rpm. Plus you can find a lot more tires in the 205/50/16 size.

I'm waiting for the Pirelli P7000s to get off back order at the Tire Rack. They seem to be the best 205/50/16 I can find for now.

I got a question now.....will any tire place just swap your 195/50 R 16s for the 205/50 R16s or whatever else you want to put on the stock rims? Or do I have to go to someplace shaddy to get this done?

Curious,

I think if you look the Tire Rack has done tests that show the Yokohama Prada Spec 2 to be beter and cheaper then the Pirelli's.

My bad the Prada Spec 2s don't come in 50 profile only 45. Only $90 on Tire Rack and they are in stock.

about the 205/50's

Say I have a flat with the 205/50's, will the temporary spare (which was designed, I guess, to run with the 195's) still work ok or is it gonna make the car lean or put added stress on the drivetrain if I have to use it up front?????

-Tay

eh, you'll be fine with the little spare... it's not going to lean anymore than it would have with the stock tires on there...
