calls over bluetooth

I've noticed some oddities with the bluetooth in my 2016 CX-5 GT. First, whenever my car starts up, the infotainment system sometimes doesn't show the bluetooth icon or music icon, which indicates it's paired with my iphone. However, if I look at the bluetooth settings on my iPhone, it shows that it is connected to my car. If I stream music from my phone, it plays over the audio system as long as I select my phone in the audio sources list. Sometimes the bluetooth symbol appears on the infotainment system, and sometimes it doesn't, but my phone always seems to be connected. Another odd thing I noticed is that if I pick up my iPhone and manually dial a number while paired to the car, the sound comes through my phone, NOT through the audio system in the car, and when I looked at the sound options on my iPhone last night while talking on the phone (I was parked), there was no option to change it over to "mazda". If I push the phone button and dial from the car, the sound comes through the car. This seems odd to me. In my 2010 Mazda 3, if I dial a number on my phone, it immediately sends it through the car's bluetooth system by default. Is anyone else experiencing this?
