To be completely fair, the California Air Resources Board never intended to ban black paint -- or any color of paint, for that matter. When devising ways to implement the Cool Cars Initiative, CARB couldn't find any dark paints that passed the 20% solar reflectivity test, which others took to mean that CARB would be banning them. Not so, says a CARB spokesman: "We are by no means interested in banning or restricting car colors." For now, CARB is sticking with the reflective glass portion of the initiative, which would add a reflective clear coat to windows and $31-$50 to the price of a new car, and is taking public comments on the proposed new rules.

I saw that article & thought I was being Punk'd. but if any state in the Union would consider such a moronic move, it'd be California. And gawd help me, Charlie Crist, our governor here in FL, has his head so far up Arnie's posterior, we'd be next.

Let's hope nobody seriously considers such a move.

I hate when columnists spread inflammatory BS that is barely even grounded in fact. Do some flippin' research before you jump to the conclusion that CA is about to ban black cars.

(@ the source, not the OP)

Research? On the innanets? One would think that might have been its intended purpose all along!

personally I think that wiki really should have been used because that is the absolute authority on the internet if you ask me

Where are your loyalties, man? It's obvious Mazdas247 is the e-thority, especially on five-cylinder engines.

People laugh at this like it can't happen. Sure its far fetched......but just give it some time. :)

Govt to GM and other companies in trouble: If you want our govt dollars to bail you out, you will take black paint off as an option to aid in reducing fuel consumption and pollution! Oh and by the way your CEO is fired!

Well at least you guys have no front plate & less strict tint laws...

Wouldn't surprise me...

I just read an article in an electronics newsletter I get - California has put forth legislation to ban all plasma, DLP, and front projection TVs by the end of 2009. Apparently they consume too much energy, and the government would now like to dictate to you how you use your electricity (which YOU pay for).

Well, if this ever happens to me in Texas, they'll have to pry my projector from my cold, dead hands ;)

Seriously, where does the madness end? I encourage everyone to attend their local Tea Party on the 15th and give our elected officials an idea of how we feel (unless, of course, you're one of those people who has no problem with our freedoms being eroded at an alarming rate). You guys just stay home and tinker with your 3 :D

The real "madness" is in people's heads. Fux news FAIL. If given the choice between going to a TEA party and staying home to play with my speed3, the car wins without any question.

don't say that....we are talking about cali....everything know to man is also know to the state of California to cause cancer

off subject but did you see the new "charges" that they are putting into affect here in Florida? Where it going to cost you liek 316 bucks just to call the police if they respond. They are going to be adding a $4.25 to everyones light bills for public light maintence.... its getting retarded.
