CAI w/ K&N

I'm sorry I have to start this thread, bc I did a search for "CAI" on the forums, but I got...

So anyway, what's the best CAI to get with a K&N filter? How much $? Where can i get it?

Anytime you get that message type a * right after the word. So try CAI* That is a wildcard. Didin't you ever use DOS?

1. does it HAVE to be a k&n filter?
2. couldn't you have searched for "intake" or "cold air"?
3. do people still use "dos"?

I am a computer tech and yes people still use DOS, alot hehe. We have a program we sell and support for vendor control in grocery stores. DOS is simple, Windows is complicated. People tend to like simple things better.

Injen, and a K&N cone. protege5online.com will have it, and its about 250 for the CAI and a cone will be another 50-75 beans. American that is. As of now i think thats your only option, unless you can pic up a used MHP intake( i think they stopped production??)

Hey guys...YES, i know DOS...all too well...I'm an old pro. Anyway, I didn't think the wildcard would work...it usually doesn't in search engines in my expericence. Besides, if the search string is too short, then why doesn't it just ASSUME the wildcar character? Well, whatever...so about the CAI...

$300+ beans for a CAI for our car is ridiculous. They're $200 for any other car. Plus, I keep hearing that CAI won't fit on our cars once we get them turbo'ed. The way it was explained to me sounds resonable, and unless spoolin or chdesign tell me otherwise, I'll maintain it as true.

About it "have" to be a K&N...I just constantly hear how superior they are. Also, I want to get a bypass valve on my CAI too, so that way in case it gets wet, I won't get water in my engine. Ouch. I'm SERIOUSLY considering "ghetto engineering" my own CAI...I'd buy a bypass valve from AEM, I'd buy a K&N filter, and I'd get either PVC piping OR mandrel bent pipes. It shouldn't cost more than $100...What do you guys think? I know it's been done before by someone on here, but I think my idea is decent...input?

Customs, look good but usually dont give any gains. The only thing that you may get a gain from is if you go from a stock airbox with a stock filter to a cusotm with a high flow cone style filter. For some reason everyone thinks that the engineers that work for car companies make bad intakes, when in theory they're great for the stock engine. An K&N ($34.00) drop in filter will give you almost the same gains as a CAI, and thats an AEM quality company. I realize you may get 1-2 extra horses, and a nicer sound, but truthfully nothing more than that. And as for a custom, there is ALOT more that goes into it than most realize. Size of piping, wall thikness, bend angles, placement, and so on. And to go cutom, it you want a nice polished tube, that is louder, go for it, but my sugestion would be a drop in filter, unless you can sell out the 300 for a CAI, and a new filter. just my $0.02

So you think a drop in filter would to more than a ghetto engineered CAI? What if i use the same piping size for my custom CAI? I can try to mimic the bend angles to the best of my ability...and how does thickness of piping affect things? LMK.
