You can make some simple modifications to the relays that come with your HID setup to eliminate the flicker caused by the DRL setup in the mazda 3.--This deos not remove your DRL it just remove the flicker that the pulsing causes.

The blue square is a single pole double throw relay, you can get tham at just about any autoparts store or stereo shop.

Great, thanks for the clarification. One more question.
Can you please confirm the specs of the capacitor? I'm not really sure what is ment by 10K uf. I have never seen such capacitors.

What is a DRL?

If I'm not mistaken, that would be a 10,000 micro-farad cap. The symbol for micro doesn't translate well onto computers.

*smacks head* i should have remembered that from chemistry and electronics.

(spin) We all have lapses...

I just bought all the components for this today, and I hope to have time on Monday to start the build. Has anybody actually tried this, and did it work?

I don't know of anyone who has actually tested this. It "should work", but test carefully, and make sure all connections are secure and taped very well. Be sure to check the restistor and cap after a couple of minutes to make sure they aren't getting too hot(this circuit isn't really desigend for a 100% duty cycle)..

a much simpler way to bypass the drl would be to just use the parking lights as the trigger for the relay, you wouldn't need the cap or resistor. The headlights would just come on anytime you turned on the parking lights.

So I build the circuit according to the wiring diagram today and hooked it all up, but it doesnt work. The light remains off, either way DRLs on, or even if I turn on the lights.

Gotte go to work in a few min. Tomorrow I will have double check my work and see where I went wrong.

Double check that you have the diode installed correctly if it's backwards, it won't damage anything, but nothing will work. It also looks like you might have the wrong type of diode, I have always used rectifier diodes. Every one I have ever used looks very similar to this:
