busted BCs!

well i was saving for these coils but now..im not sure, LAME
i hope a fix pops up

sounds like the fix is to get different coilovers!

i know a few people mentioned this happening on the stock strut. what about other brands of coilovers?

just talked to the people at BC racing. they were very understanding and helpful and will be sending me a replacement lower housing for the coilover. they said it was a common problem and that the "newer" design is reinforced in this area. i bought mine about a year ago so they didn't know if i have the new or the old design.

they also mentioned the having adjustable endlinks might help put less pressure on the tab. but forgot to ask if having longer or shorter endlinks would help! thoughts?

that's what they told me too... but the replacement i got looked exactly the same with no "new" reinforcement... hehe... too bad it wasn't common enough to replace my second one for free

as for adjustable endlinks... should'nt have to... because it should be able to handle the pressure... if that was the case they should throw in some adjustable endlinks with the kit... i mean they do throw in new front endlinks... i guess thats only because they have to

here's a pic of my damage... the back passenger broke first... then i got that replaced (under warranty)... a few weeks later the back driver side broke... then got that replaced (out of warranty and supposedly the "newer design")... lol... i should just stock up on these things

gah! i guess i'll find out when i get the new housing....

they include shorter endlinks for the front end. but as is evident people have also broken the tabs up front. meh... maybe it's all just a load of crap. i probably won't buy BCs again.

This is usually due to having too much pre-load on the sway bar. Using stock length endlinks on lowered suspension set-ups instead of longer ones that keep the swaybar parallel with the ground.

I am making some right angle brackets that attach using the 2 bolts for the strut and hub. I have been riding around with no endlinks for six months.

when you get them in... take some pics if they are "newer"... supposedly mine where the newer design but i didn't see any difference... i also had to wait a few weeks to get it in because they said they had to fab on up for me... seems weird... i mean if it is a common problem then they should have some on hand..

if i could go with some longer endlinks i probably would... but any longer and my swaybar is gonna hit the lateral bars

besides the tabs breaking... i love'um

I cant say the BCs are s***. Ill buy them again for ym next ride. Just be more careful driving around.

i certainly don't think they are s***. adjustability, performance, looks, price point have all been good. but this weak point is clearly a common problem that i don't really want to have to deal with or be concerned about.

^^theres a guy in socal with a yellow p5 and his had his BCs for over 4 years without an issue. Like i said be careful and youll be fine.

maybe it is just three-wheeling that causes the extra stress. which means i need a different garage since(as mentioned) i three-wheel every time i pull in and out!

It's definitely from "3 wheeling" your car. Anti-roll bars increase weight transfer, so if you actually lift a wheel off the ground, or come close to it, stresses in the entire ARB assembly go up... evidently out of the designed stresses!

When I purchased my BC's I ordered new endlinks for the rear (OEM). I track my car in NASA events and have yet to encounter any issues, at all to date, this is after several events at MId-Ohio and other tracks.

why did you get OEM endlinks? (as opposed to adjustable, stronger, shorter, longer, etc.) getting the same endlinks makes no difference unless the ones you had were damaged or worn somehow...

I've been 3 wheeling for 20yrs but this is the first time I've broken a tab in any car. I go like .25mph in those situations though.

so endlinks help with the problem then just prolongs it?
i dont hardly ever go up my driveway i just park on the street nice and level the only time i can think that i would go angled would be to get over street bumps once im lowered thats it.
Im still thinking about getting these since some say they have had no problems with them even after track days

i would definitely buy again... they are great

just received the replacement housing from BC, gonna install tomorrow and hook up my sway bar again. it looks the same as the one i had, so this must be the "new" design they claimed they had. i appreciate the quick replacement, but it's still a weak spot. i'll pay more attention to avoid three-wheeling and see if it helps...

heres what mine looked like

heres the bent endlink too

Holy S**t! How did you bend the endlink like that? Those things are strong as hell. That would have taken alot of force to bend. I can see why the tab broke.

^ yeah, his looks far worse than mine. his is also from the front end which has a beefier tab than the rears where mine broke.
