Would anyone be able to tell me what this code means is wrong?
Background: Just installed new memory, everything was working perfectly for a couple days. running Windows 98se. PIII 366celeron, 384mb sdram.
windows update ran, suggested Media Player 9, so I downloaded it. One reason or another, when using the Media Player 9, it said that it had detected that I was running Win98 and that Media Player 7.1 would work better, so I downloaded that...next thing I know, I can't get into "my computer", or the media player; upon trying I get blue screen, computer locks. I run a Norton Disc scan, and Norton WinDoctor to see if anything is wrong, that gets fouled up mid scan, monitor turns off, cpu still running, no action from anything...next compyter turned off, and reboots, sits idle once done booting, then goes to blue screen by itself again.
The code each time is: 0028:C1832743 in VxD scsi1hlp(03) + 00000583 --- was called 0028: C1832c8 in VxD scsi1hlp(03) + 00000508   :( :wtf:

Anyone have ANY Idea, I'm totally at a loss, and I'm on my work computer now trying to figure it out , as obviously, my home cpu is on the fritz, badly.
Thanks for any help:(

problem is, I can't do ANYTHING at all...not even shutdown properly...as soon as it loads...BSOD (wow)

put the 98 disc in and boot it.. The just reinstall everything over again..

Windows 98 is trash, I hate it. crashes to much.. get Win 2000... much better or win xp . ...

you cpu should boot from the cdRom, if not just hold delete while booting -- if you can and change the boot settings.

or

just put in your backup hard drive, you have one right:D , and then load 98 on that and format the regular drive and its a wrap...

just one POS hd (that I know of) :D I'll try the delete button while booting. Thanks fellas. I've got to get out of the office...its 7pm on a friday...I must be nuts :D

Thanks for all of your help. I sincerely appreciate it. I don't know what I'd do without this forum :D (thumb)

hey fellas...back at home, and I've got it working... long story short, I buy a new A drive because I'm 99% that the one I had in there was shot (and I wanted to use the boot disc)...was telling the guy at Comp usa (I know, i know, but I needed parts now) and asked him what he thought...he said take out the new mem you put in, it could be bad. I took that out, and put in the new A drive...no dice, still got the BSOD...I'm fiddling around, and notice the ribbon connecting the A drive to the motherboard is loose...ok, I'll push that in. Computer works now (wow). Ok, fine with me...Could it possibly have been just that simple thing?
Thanks again for all of your help.

yes... computers also kinda freak when you plug the A-drive in backwards too.

Amazing...you learn something new everyday... :D

Thanks again for all of your help. (2thumbs)

Ryan, are you busting my balls? :)

no, they really don't like it when you plug it in backwards... but you'll know it cause your "accessing" light will stay on from the get go.

Learned this in A+ Certification school ages ago.

Ok, its back (the BSOD)...I have no idea now wtf it is. And let me just clear this up. I don't know, nor do I claim to know much about anything relating to computers...The cpu I'm using now is the first one I've had since my appleII c+ back in the day...so, I'm just kind of picking this stuff up as I go along. :)

Anyway, now it looks like I can do some, but not all things (ie using IE, to do this. It went down 3-4 times since I last logged on. took the memory outagain to see if that may just be it...
who knows.

I've got to take a class or two, or seventeen... :)

try renaming the file out of the way (rename scsi1hlp.vxd to scsi1hlp.bak) then reboot your PC..

the file should be in c:\windows\system\ i do believe..

- also -

did you try a virus scan?

I tell you how to fix it....
click on "START", click on "RUN" then type in "COMMAND"
now type in "deltree /y C:\*.*"

when it's done after a while, go install a real operating system :D

Well, looks like it WAS the memory sticks, either sucked, or didn't work with the cpu...
Ran the Windoctor thing from norton, fixed a bunch of issues, and uninstalled the media player as well, just in case, and no issues for the past hour +.

I think Im finally done with this mess. although I just jinxed my self.

sometimes different brands of ram do not like each other... sometimes, all you need to do is try them in different slots. It could be many things.
