My car has 21k miles and I kept hearing this clunking noise from r/r. I looked under and noticed the r/r shcok was totally covered in oil. I guess the shaft broke, shifted the seal and all the oil leaked through.
I was kinda hesitant to take it to a local dealer (Koeppel Mazda), especially since replacing it looks super easy (thanks to a good write up here). But I took it anyway, and Koeppel Mazda replaced it under warranty.
Just thought I'd share this experience, for whatever its worth.
