Broken Axle and Diff. Issues.

So lately, my car has been making this really loud thwack noise everytime i cut the wheel. It got worse after we put the car on a jack to look at it, thinking it may have been the strut. Wrong again. . .I have a broken axle, and my Diff. is wobbling badly. How this happened? Launching the car at the track. ATX owners beware, hell I think everyone should be cautious. I don't know if anyone has had problems like this, but some feedback would be nice. It's heading straight to my dad's shop to see what can be done, it's still under warranty, but who knows if the brilliant people at mazda will actually do anything about it. The car only has about 35k miles on it, and is lightly modded. If anyone can add some decent feedback, other than trying to shoot me down, go right ahead.

launching an auto... not a good idea without the proper tranny upgrades... good luck with it and i wouldn't be surprised if dealership said nfw...

how... how do you even launch an auto.. just punch the throttle and go? Anything other than that would totally void that there warranty thing you have :P

what happened man how long ago did you find this out. when you drive does your steering wheel vibrate back and forth.

it went to mazda today. they said they will cover it. yay!! Todd, it vibrated back and forth, and made a really loud twack when the wheel was cut to the right. I advise you to atleast look at your diff. since our cars are nearly identical.

how much is the steering wheel wobbling because a little is normal at like highway speeds... well not normal... but doesnt mean that anything is seriously messed up

Mine is wobbling alot, it's something in the differential. Mazda has it covered, and I talked to them today, and the mentioned something about a new tranny. Ah well, thank god for warranties right?

your car looks a little more than slightly modded. It is worth a shot to take it to the dealer

Exhaust and an intake = slightly modded :) I'm not even counting the controversial wiring mods since they more than likely do about jack.

Glad you got it covered, but launching an auto at the track?? The only way you could brake the diff doing that is if you start in Nuetral, rev the engine, and throw it in gear...bad stuff.

You could try power braking it..hehe that's about all you could do for an automatic.

Wow! They actually let ATX's on a track? Well, someone has to lose. j/k
You are one lucky guy for them to cover that. Unless you did something really dumb, there's no way you're pumping enough power to do any damage. You need to take that car back to stock and trade it in for a MTX if you really want to play.

She play's just fine. I've actually stomped on plenty of MTX guys, modded and not modded. Come to find out, it wasn't initially caused from racing. A few years back, I was run off the road and caused 13k worth of damage to the car. Insurance decided to fix the vehicle, it being only 2 months old, and when they did, failed to inspect and replace a few "minor" noises they noticed...aka a differential noise. My powerbraking and launching the car only made it worse over time, and eventually decided to suck ass and give out. Mazda had to order a new tranny from the factory so I still don't have my car back yet. Should be ready sometime next week. For everyone who ends up blowing a tranny, be prepared to wait almost a month for a new transmission, they've got to come straight from the factory, they don't even have them in warehouses. YAY!! lol. My dealer, as grateful as I am for them replacing the tranny, are a bunch of morons, for first ordering an axle stretch-bolt and some other part, that wouldn't make much of a difference. For their bad service and stupidity, my dad convinced them they needed to replace my warped rotors along with replacing the tranny. Mazda - 0, me - 2. YAY!! I'll keep ya'll posted on how it turns out. Time to order a tranny cooler, and a few other necessities to never run into trouble like this again.
