Broke LED brake light? Really?!

Just learned at state safety inspection the 3rd brake light, the LED brake lamp on the top of the rear windsheild/tail gatelift, is not working on my '07/88k Has this failed for anyone else; was it a lose connection or an actually broken light? Looking for some ideas what to expect before tearing it apart!

It's very easy to reach and remove for testing the contacts. The light itself is sealed, complete replacement only. Let's hope it's the contacts.
