brakes

okay so i've had my speed3 for about 2months now and i think it's time to change the brakes.
i mean they are still fine but they release way to much brake dust and my wheels are always getting dirty. but sometimes when driving for a while they start to screech and i don't like that.
so my question is what kind of brakes should i get and where should i get them?
i'm not looking for performance brakes or anything like that i just want good solid brakes that would last me.

I run the Hawk HPS ones & I have barely any brake dust now. They're not much more pricey than probably a stock cheapy pair. You can price around Protege Garage, JSC Speed or ********** for prices. Or ebay or google search.

I've been using Hawk Performance Ceramics for the past few months and they have been great DD pads. I don't track or Auto-x, so I wanted something that didn't dust badly, but would yield good performance still. There's a GB going on over at the Mazda3 forums - really cheap prices for the Hawk pads. I'd check them out if I were you. PM if you would like a link to it.

Wow Ive never heard someone call the stock speed3 replacement pads Cheap! I believe they're over 200 bucks for the fronts. They're high quality pad made by Ferodo and they work well despite all the brake dust. Id definitely ride them out before replacing them with something else.

Wait, your car is only 2 months old and you think you need to change the brakes?! Not likely, more like you want to I'm thinking.

If you want great braking performance, live with the dust. It's almost an automotive fact:

Great braking = lots and lots of nasty black dust
bad braking = very little dust

It is a big pain in the ass to keep the wheels clean with the stock pads but they work very well. I think I'd try the Hawks after I wear mine out but they usually last quite a while from what I've read on here.

I've had my car since like 35000 miles and for the past 4k miles while coasting i've been hearing what sounds like knives on a sharpening on a stone coming from my front rims. Ifigured I was going low on pad but I check them and there's nothing wrong ... Just wired noises

i am running the hawk hps and am very very happy with them. I think I have about 25k on them with plenty of life still and very little dust between washes

The stock brakes/ pads are great and very expensive. Just carry a rag with you to dust them off if it bothers you that much.

I have 36K and am putting new ceramic brake pads on the front. $65 for Wagner brake pads from Advanced Auto Parts.

If you have an MS3 I can almost guarantee you that the pads autozone has will NOT fit.

Look into either OEM or some aftermarket/performance pads instead. They work just as well, if not better, and cost less the OEM. I personally recommend the Hawk HPS pads if you are going to be driving mostly street.

Yes, the OEMs do work very well. The dust is aggravating, though.

Great street pad, had them on my last car. Not sure they are better than the OEMs; we have great brakes stock.

im getting close to replacing my rotors and pads. i think im gonna do oem rotors with hawk pads or oem pads. the dust is annoying but i can live with it, which of the 2 is best..cause thats all i care about.

I would go with rotorpros/hps combo (99% of stock pads)

You guys are right, took the pads off from my 2007 Speed and the Wagner pads don't fit and don't have the hardware on the outside pad for the spring to attach to. I went to the dealer and it looks like the front brake system I have requires OEM pads which are over $200.

Which front braking systems do you guys have? I think they have changed the caliper system since my model so you can probably buy aftermarket for yours, but not mine.

They have not changed the brake system since 07. 07-09 are all the same and I am willing to bet the 2010 MS3 is the same. So yes, you can get aftermarkets for yours.

The reason why your Autozone pads didn't work is because Autozone doesn't realize there is a difference between a regular 3 and an MS3.
