brake dust removal

what's the best way to get the brake dust out of all the spokes and the lugs on the stock MS3 wheels? The fronts get dirty so fast, cleaning off the outside face of the wheels is no problem, but getting in all the spokes is really a pain. So far the tool that seems to work best is my finger. Also, has anyone had any luck with any of the brake dust repellant sprays?

i have heard that if you throw a coat of wax on the rims after washing them fully. brake dust is much easier to remove and it prob wont build up as quick do to it not being able to stick to the surface. give it a shot.

ive got 5 spokers on my protege. so cleaning is easy.lol

i tried the wax on my wheels and it might have helped a little bit but i dont think it was worthwhile.

I say its your pad material. If its anything like what they put on the rears of the NA 3's good luck. Dust is just a fact of life with those pads.

Wax or wheel polish does work in most cases. It definitely keeps the dust factor to a minimum after you have totally cleaned the wheel. But so does washing them weekly and not letting it build up. Clean the inside of the wheel as well, rinse the calipers also. If you have to use a safe wheel cleaner for tough spots.

DO NOT USE POLISH on rims it will mess up cleer coat. wax or instant detailer and keeping up with it i wash mine weekly. once a month i remove whells and wash the backside.

i find that it pretty much just wipes off right away with just soap and water, whether or not it was coated with something

I was going to post today and ask if break dust was driving anyone else crazy...I guess it is. I just simple green the wheels when I wash the car and the junk comes right off. I thinking of upgrading my pads soon though, when Auto EXE isn't thte only pricey option.

the suggestions on how to keep the dust off are good. When I get some new wheels I'll definitely seal them. I was more wondering what people use to get into all the areas on the stock ms3 spokes. Toothbrush? just a wash mitt?

I'd love to!

if only I had that kind of cash just laying around. I'll probably get some snow tires put on the stockers in the winter, then get new wheels in the spring

That's the road I plan to go on. This way, I would also save money from getting new rims. That and I have curb rash on the stocks :(
Now just need to get the money rolling in:(

ouch, curb rash. I've been so paranoid about that, I always point the mirror down when I parallel park and pull in super slow.

Dupont made a product that seems to work for me. Its a wheel cleaner with Teflon in the ingredients. It sprays on during washdown, and goes after the dirt and grime really well. A soft wheel brush and rag, and they are good to go. The teflon coat seems to work for about 2 weeks, before the dreaded "tinting" of the front wheels starts to overcome the shine.

I do the same, just use a washmit and get in between all the spokes with it. Obviously do the rims last, after the rest of the car (duh). Also, an old toothbrush works well to get in tight crevices or triangular areas that the mit will not reach, just don't get too aggressive with it. This also works well to get wax out of crevices that it was accidentally applied.

Believe it or not, I've also heard of people using cheapy toilet brushes dedicated for wheel cleaning the hard to reach spots behind the face/spoke of the wheel. Long handle, nylon bristles good reach etc.
