Brake Clean?

I recently changed my oil and replaced the oil pan plug. Ofcourse napa sold me the wrong plug first off and I had a slow drip drop leak. Then I went to get the right plug (w/ the washer this time) and drained my recently changed new/fresh oil, put the new plug on and went to put in the new oil drained from my previous change.

Then.....whoops, I spilled some oil over my heat shield, cadillidic convertor, and header (other places to). Most of the oil burnt off pretty quickly (a little smoky = scary) but the oil on the header is taking a while to burn off = smelly burnt oil.

Someone told me about brake clean which you spray on after your engine cools and it evaporates the oil. They had told me how flammable it is so it is real important to use it while the engine is cool.

1) How long should I wait before I start the engine up again?

2) Does it work very good?

3) Any other concerns about my whoops oil spill?

P.S. I can provide the correct napa part # for the oil pan plug if anyone wants it! : )

I would fire it up outside and let it warm up whenever you like.

Let it run for a min or so and it will dry up quick.

It's not that dangerous..

I pretty much thought so. I mean it's just brake cleaner for brakes, so why would it be so dangerous? Obviously, if it flammable you don't want the engine to be to hot but this guy made it sound like it was rocket science!

There are two different kinds of brake cleaner. There is the flamable cfc's kills teddy bears in Australia variety. It works great and evaporates quickly. Then there is this non-CFC non-flamable stuff that I don't even know why they call it brake cleaner. It takes for ever to evaporate and leaves a residue.
